Dry, frizzy hair is a toll many of us pay during vacations, especially if we have curly hair. While the cosmetics market offers ideal products for hydration and smoothness, nature also provides healthy alternatives to improve its appearance. For instance, the vitamins in nut oils, like almond oil, deeply nourish and eliminate the frizz effect that can make hair look aged.

The fatty acids in fruits like avocados or the proteins and minerals in bananas improve hair structure, giving it more movement and volume.  Below, we share ideas for making homemade hair masks that "feed" your hair with the best natural ingredients.

Almond Oil

Almond oil nourishes dry hair and reduces frizz. It also adds shine and leaves a pleasant scent. Ideally, apply it to dry hair before bed, massage it well to penetrate deeply, and leave it on overnight. To prevent stains, wrap your hair in plastic wrap or cover your pillow with an old case.

Another way to use almond oil is by mixing it with a banana and half an avocado (adjust amounts based on hair length and volume). These three natural ingredients will add shine, nourishment, and softness to your dry, frizzy hair. Blend them into a smooth mixture and apply to damp hair for 20 minutes.

Egg and Olive Oil Mask

A classic ingredient for homemade masks is egg, which deeply nourishes hair. Mix it with cold-pressed almond oil and beat well. Leave it on for at least an hour (the longer, the better for dry hair). To further reduce frizz, add natural yogurt and a tablespoon of honey.

Avocado or Avocado Oil Mask

The classic avocado mask remains a staple in hair care. To make it, extract the pulp of an avocado and mash it in a bowl until smooth. Add half a lemon juice for extra shine. Avocado is rich in fatty acids and has regenerative properties. When applied to the scalp, it nourishes the skin, leaving it more elastic, soft, and radiant. As noted by ApoEm, it strengthens and promotes hair growth.

Aloe Vera

Aloe vera hydrates your hair and can be used as a styling gel for curly hair. To prepare the mask, cut leaves from an aloe vera plant and soak them in water for 24 hours to remove aloin, a potentially toxic substance. After this time, apply the aloe gel to dry hair. Its high water content and richness in vitamins and amino acids deeply nourish and hydrate hair.

Honey and Olive Oil Mask

These two kitchen staples can help treat dry hair and reduce unpleasant roughness and frizz common in damaged hair. This mask should be left on for several hours, so apply it at night or during a work-from-home day. Mix three parts olive oil with one part honey, blend well, and apply to clean, damp hair from roots to ends, massaging the scalp.

Shea Butter

This natural remedy provides extra hydration and combats frizz. Melt shea butter (via a double boiler) on its own or mix it with another nourishing ingredient, like wheat germ. Shea butter is rich in vitamins A, D, E, and F, while wheat germ is packed with fatty acids, making it ideal for dry hair.

Açai Oil

This fruit contains Omega 6 and Omega 9 fatty acids, vitamins B3, C, and E, and essential minerals and amino acids. According to Farma Dorsch, this powerful combination makes it highly hydrating and smoothing, preparing your hair for the fall. Create a mask using a few drops of açai oil, natural yogurt, and aloe vera gel. Apply the mixture to dry hair, massage, and leave it on for an hour.

Coconut oil

Coconut oil is another excellent ally for post-summer hair recovery. It deeply nourishes and prevents frizz in dry and damaged hair. For an intensive treatment, apply coconut oil to your hair at night and leave it on while you sleep.

Henna or Cassia

These two plants are incredible allies for your hair, addressing dryness, frizz, and lack of shine. Use cassia instead of henna to avoid adding color to your hair. Known as neutral henna, cassia is a plant with extraordinary properties for restoring hair health. The result of its application is spectacular shine, increased volume, more body, strengthened hair, and a significant reduction in frizz, according to Henna Morena.
