Prince Harry’s long-awaited reunion with King Charles is being viewed as a positive step for father and son, but royal insiders believe it is unlikely to bring Prince William any closer to his younger brother.

In fact, according to several royal experts, the King's willingness to reconnect with Harry may only underscore the growing divide between the brothers, whose relationship remains deeply strained years after the Duke of Sussex stepped back from royal life and moved to California with Meghan Markle.

Prince William is reportedly the "holdout" when it comes to reconciliation efforts with his younger brother.

Last week, reports emerged that Harry and Meghan are preparing to bring Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet to the United Kingdom next month, marking the children's first visit since 2022.

The trip is expected to include a long-awaited reunion between King Charles and his California-based grandchildren, something sources say has become increasingly important to the monarch.

As reported by Page Six, Charles has reportedly extended an olive branch to the Sussexes by inviting them to stay at a royal residence during their visit and offering to assist with security arrangements.

Royal experts say King Charles is focused on reconnecting with Prince Harry and his grandchildren during their upcoming visit to the UK.

While the King's focus appears to be on rebuilding family ties, experts say William remains far less receptive.

"William has been the holdout for years, viewing Harry’s betrayal as unforgivable," royal commentator Amanda Matta told the outlet.

Matta believes the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Sussex remain the most fractured relationship within the royal family.

Royal experts say Prince William has focused on his royal responsibilities while tensions with Prince Harry continue behind the scenes.

"I think it is almost impossible to draw any conclusions about a reconciliation between Harry and William at this stage," she said.

The royal commentator also suggested that William's frustration extends beyond Harry's public criticism of the monarchy.

According to Matta, the future king has increasingly sought to project stability and leadership while carrying out the day-to-day responsibilities of royal life.

Prince William reportedly remains wary of reconciliation efforts following Prince Harry’s public criticism of the royal family and the release of his memoir, Spare.

"William is also seeking to project strength and leadership these days, which often results in press briefings that he has opposed the king’s handling of emotionally charged issues like Andrew Mountbatten Windsor and now, Harry’s potential return," she explained.

Royal reporter Emily Nash echoed that assessment, saying she does not expect the brothers to reunite during Harry's upcoming visit.

"I certainly wouldn’t expect anything to happen on this visit," Nash said, before adding, "I mean, you never know."

Prince William and Prince Harry's relationship remains strained as King Charles reportedly works to rebuild ties with the Duke of Sussex.

Even if the two brothers find themselves attending the same family event, Nash believes expectations should remain low.

"If it was part of a wider family gathering, it’s possible they could be at the same place at the same time," she said.

"But, you know, given the very fractious nature of the relationship between William and Harry, I don’t see them rushing to spend time together just because Harry’s back in the UK."

King Charles is reportedly eager to spend time with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet during the family's visit.

For now, Charles appears focused on his own relationship with Harry rather than attempting to mediate between his sons.

"I think he probably is just focused on his own moment of spending time with the son he’s not seen for a long time," Nash said.

"Especially potentially meeting his grandchildren… I’m sure that’s probably his primary focus right now."

The royal brothers have remained estranged since Harry and Meghan stepped back from royal duties in 2020.

The contrast highlights what royal observers describe as two very different approaches within the family.

While Charles reportedly feels a responsibility as both a father and monarch to keep communication channels open, William remains wary after years of public revelations, including Harry's Netflix projects and memoir, 'Spare.'

According to Matta, any genuine progress between the brothers would likely begin with private conversations rather than public gestures.

Despite renewed reunion hopes, experts caution that healing the rift between Prince William and Prince Harry will take time.

"If there were to be a private meeting between William and Harry, this would be a clear signal that lines of communication are being reopened," she said.

Still, those following the royal rift are not expecting quick fixes. "These things have to happen step by step," Nash said.

"When things have been as difficult and as estranged as they have been in that family, I wouldn’t expect things to change overnight."
