The Duchess of Edinburgh is on an official tour across South and Central America, currently visiting Peru, Panama, Guatemala, and Belize. Her itinerary focuses on conservation and supporting vulnerable communities, including meetings with indigenous leaders.
Amid the vastness of the jungle, Prince Edward’s wife recreated an iconic photo of Kate Middleton with a giant spider, but her reaction was strikingly different, and the images have already gone viral.
During her journey through the Peruvian Amazon, the Duchess displayed a mix of astonishment and concern after seeing a large spider. Photos show her raising a hand to her forehead while observing the tarantula, her expression a mix of fear and unease.
The spider in question was a Goliath tarantula, one of the largest in the world and capable of eating birds. Despite her apprehension, the Duchess bravely held the tarantula on a large leaf, though she didn’t appear entirely at ease.
Once again, she showcased courage and commitment, putting her mission to promote humanitarian and conservation causes above her personal fears, proving an admirable trait shared by many members of the British royal family.
The images inevitably recall a 2021 visit by Kate Middleton to Ulster University, where the Princess of Wales happily held a large hairy spider in her hands, smiling confidently and showing no fear of the creature.
During her Peruvian visit, the Duchess of Edinburgh immersed herself in a truly wild day, packed with activities that showcased her dedication. Sophie has become a key figure during King Charles III’s reign, as reflected in her busy schedule.
Her day began with a tour of the BAP América, the world’s oldest river gunboat, built in Liverpool in 1904. The most emotional moment came during her visit to the children of the region, engaging with them through play and attentive conversation.
Sophie also witnessed a climbing demonstration by Lisbeth Zamora Pizango, a champion of aguaje climbing, who shared her efforts in the sustainable harvesting of this fruit.
The Duchess chose practicality and comfort during these outings, wearing sneakers and waterproof boots, essentials to navigate the swampy jungle terrain.
She was last seen wearing this type of footwear in 2022 during a visit to Shallowford Farm, an agricultural school in Newton Abbot that teaches vulnerable youth practical farming skills.
