Genoveva Casanova has officially won the first round of her lawsuit against Lecturas magazine over the infamous photos of her walking through Madrid with Frederik of Denmark.

The September hearing at Plaza de Castilla ended in her favour, with the judge ordering the magazine to pay her 175,000 euros. Casanova had asked for a million, but even so, it’s a significant step in a case that’s made headlines from the start.

The moment the news broke, the spotlight swung straight to Queen Mary, as many wondered about her reaction and what followed the decisive moment.

Queen Mary was in Brazil, literally in the Amazon, when the ruling became public. The timing was striking, but her trip wasn’t last-minute. She’s there as part of the lead-up to COP30, meeting with researchers and local organizations working to protect the rainforest and promote sustainable ways of living with it.

Far from Copenhagen and even farther from the Madrid courthouse, Mary spent her first day smiling, relaxed, and dressed in a look we rarely see on her, which consisted of a loose brown blouse, black cargo pants, trekking boots, and her hair pulled back. Jungle-ready and seemingly unfazed by the storm brewing back in Europe.

She learned about Amazonian agriculture, tasted dishes made with different ingredients, and met the people fighting to protect the area’s astonishing biodiversity.

Her looks for the occasion:

Later, in Pará, she switched back to classic Mary elegance for a meeting with the region’s governor, Helder Barbalho. She paired a green blouse with a flowing bone-white midi skirt and black sandals, stepping out polished and effortlessly glamorous.

Her schedule also included a visit to Agrizone, a centre dedicated to sustainable farming, where she was shown how small-scale circular agriculture and eco-friendly production can support both local communities and the environment.

What Genoveva’s team is saying:

Sources tell ¡HOLA! that Genoveva’s legal team plans to ask for a reassessment of the compensation. They aren’t thrilled with the amount, which falls far short of the million euros they initially demanded, and they’re confident that the final ruling could still shift in their favour.

Genoveva herself is staying completely silent, just as she has from the beginning, with no statements, no reactions, nothing to feed the flames.

The magazine’s defence, meanwhile, is preparing an appeal. They argue the story was published under the right to report on matters of public interest and are already working, according to Informalia, to “minimise the damage.”

Sixteen people testified in the hearing, including magazine staff and contributors like Pilar Eyre. Lecturas didn’t just run the photos, but they continued publishing pieces suggesting Genoveva and Frederik’s connection ran deeper and had begun long before that Madrid walk.
