Queen Mary of Denmark made a stunning appearance at the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) opening in Giza, one of the cultural highlights of the year, in a guipure lace ensemble, showcasing her elegant style.

The diplomatic ceremony, set against the iconic pyramids, brought together top global leaders, including King Felipe VI, the Grand Duke of Luxembourg, Prince Albert of Monaco, and Queen Rania of Jordan, who honored Egypt in a striking red gown.

Queen Mary's symbolic gesture:

Mary chose a guipure lace ensemble by the Australian label Zimmermann, featuring a short-sleeved, high-neck top paired with a matching midi skirt. The floral-patterned lace hinted at a delicate mint undertone, giving depth to the stunning white fabric. While the design recalled bridal imagery, it felt effortlessly modern and natural.

The outfit is from Zimmermann’s Natura line, celebrated for Victorian-inspired silhouettes and artisanal finishes. Founded in 1991 by sisters Nicky and Simone Zimmermann in Australia, the brand is a nod to the queen’s homeland, a subtle, symbolic gesture during an event of international significance.

Her hair was worn down with a side part and soft waves, complemented by natural, eye-focused makeup. The result was a feminine, refined look, quintessentially Danish in its preference for clean lines and weighty textures over excess embellishment.

A historic event:

Dubbed the “fourth pyramid,” the Grand Egyptian Museum opens its doors after more than 20 years of construction. The GEM, the world’s largest museum dedicated to a single civilization, aims to become a beacon of cultural diplomacy and international heritage.

The inauguration, hosted by Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, featured live performances, orchestral music, and a drone display illuminating the pyramids of Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure. Attendees included representatives from Europe’s royal houses and global leaders.

Queen Mary’s official visit to Egypt marks a new chapter in Danish-Egyptian cooperation. According to Denmark’s Embassy in Cairo, her presence at the GEM opening proves Denmark’s commitment to cultural collaboration, heritage conservation, and fostering international understanding.

“The Kingdom of Denmark is honored to join Egypt in celebrating this extraordinary cultural milestone,” stated Ambassador Lars Bo Møller, noting that bilateral ties strengthened following El-Sisi’s 2024 visit to Copenhagen, which culminated in the signing of the Strategic Partnership Agreement covering political, economic, and cultural cooperation.
