Princess Charlene of Monaco honored Giorgio Armani after learning of her wedding dress designer's death. A statement from Prince Albert's wife was released by the Prince's Palace of Monaco on Thursday.
"It is with great sadness that the Prince and I have learnt of the death of Giorgio Armani. He was an emblematic figure in the fashion world and has created and shaped trends that have influenced generations," Charlene said. "Amongst the variety of his works, was also my wedding dress in July 2011. His work and achievements will survive him and continue to be présent in the future."
The Princess' statement was accompanied by a black-and-white photo of her and Albert on their wedding day with the designer. For her royal wedding to Grace Kelly's son in 2011, Charlene wore an off-the-shoulder Giorgio Armani gown that according to British Vogue featured 40,000 Swarovski crystals, 20,000 mother of pearl teardrops and 30,000 stones in gold shades, and took 2,500 hours to create.
Another member of Monaco's royal family, who was dressed by the designer on their wedding day, paid tribute to Giorgio on Sept. 4. Prince Albert's niece-in-law Beatrice Borromeo expressed her "deep sorrow" over the legendary designer's death with a photo of herself and Giorgio on her Instagram Story, writing (translated to English): "Deep sorrow. Yesterday I received a card with his birthday wishes, I still can't believe it. So many memories and what a great loss for his loved ones, for his company, for an entire country."
Princess Caroline's daughter-in-law wore a custom-made Giorgio Armani Privé gown for her and Pierre Casiraghi's wedding in northern Italy in 2015 and another to her wedding reception.
It was announced on Sept. 4 that the Italian fashion designer had died at the age of 91. The official Giorgio Armani Instagram account shared the news with a statement that read: "Milan, 4 September 2025 – With infinite sorrow, the Armani Group announces the passing of its creator, founder, and tireless driving force: Giorgio Armani.Il Signor Armani, as he was always respectfully and admiringly called by employees and collaborators, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones. Indefatigable to the end, he worked until his final days, dedicating himself to the company, the collections, and the many ongoing and future projects. Over the years, Giorgio Armani has crafted a vision that expanded from fashion to every aspect of life, anticipating the times with extraordinary clarity and pragmatism. He has been driven by relentless curiosity and a deep attention to the present and to people."
