Coronavirus wreaks havoc on royals with cancellations and changes to protocol

The Coronavirus, which has now been classified by the World Health Organization as a pandemic, is making its way across the world. Health officials have not only encouraged people to take the appropriate steps when it comes to washing their hands, they are also encouraging many to avoid big events. As concerns grow, royals have been taking extra precautions during engagements and in schools. Princess Estelle of Sweden’s school has already closed and King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium canceled their state visit to Italy. Here is a look at how the Queen, Prince Harry and more royals are taking precautions against the virus.

Queen Elizabeth

The longest reigning monarch is taking extra precautions when it comes to meetings. The Queen wore a special pair of white gloves during the investiture ceremony.

Prince Harry

The 35-year-old Prince, who is known for shaking hands and giving hugs, took special precautions when he met singer Craig David. During the Commonwealth Day Service, the royal playfully bumped elbows with singer Craig David

Monaco Royals

The event, which has been held every year since 1954, has been postponed. The royal family shared the news in an official statement that reads: "Due to the stricter precautionary measures related to COVID-19, we are forced to postpone this event. We will schedule a new date depending on how the situation develops."

Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofía of Spain

The school attended by the 14 and 12-year-old Princeses has been affected by the virus. A student at the Santa María de los Rosales private school tested positive for a mild case of the virus. At the time of the announcement, school was resuming at regular schedules.

King Felipe and Queen Letizia

The King and Queen have opted not to attend annual events. Coronavirus concerns halted their attendence at a special concert held at the National Music Auditorium
