Superheroes weren’t the only ones flying high Thursday night in Los Angeles. On a rooftop under the stars, more than 40 dogs, many dressed in tiny red capes, joined their humans for a special screening of the new 'Superman' movie at Rooftop Cinema Club.
The event was a tail-wagging tribute to the film’s canine co-star, Krypto the Superdog, and brought out over 100 attendees for a night of treats, photo ops, and plenty of barking at the big screen.
The dog-friendly screening, hosted by Milk-Bone, celebrated all things super-pup, while also giving back, as the brand donated dog beds and bowls to a local animal shelter.
Elizabeth Tulloch, star of Superman & Lois, served as the evening’s host and brought along her own four-legged sidekick. “I’m such a big dog lover,” she said to Nerdtropolis.
After losing her disabled French bulldog Henry in 2020, she and her husband recently adopted Marvin, a rescued pug.
Marvin showed up dressed for the occasion. “It’s his first time at the groomer before his big debut,” Tulloch said to the publication ahead of the big night.
“It’s going to be so cute. I’m picturing all these pups in capes, little popcorn buckets filled with Milk-Bones… when Krypto shows up on screen, they’ll all go wild!”
What's next for Krypto the Superdog?
It’s been confirmed that Krypto will headline his own series of animated shorts following the film’s release. “We’ve got these cool little Krypto shorts that are so fun, man,” James Gunn said to ComicBook. “He’s a terrible, terrible dog. It’s for families and it’s just really fun and goofy.”
While his comic book origins go all the way back to 1955, the story of this adorable sidekick is timeless. Krypto was fully 3D modeled after James Gunn's pup Ozu. “Then made white to match his DC Comics counterpart,” he explained.
