In one of the most adorable meetups, the world’s tallest and shortest living dogs, a Great Dane named Reggie and a Chihuahua named Pearl, came nose-to-nose for a record-breaking playdate arranged by Guinness World Records.
At a towering 3 feet 3 inches, 7-year-old Reggie had a sweet encounter with 4-year-old Pearl, who measures just 3½ inches tall. But the difference in height gap did not stop them from bonding.
“She really just wants to love on everybody just like Reggie,” said Reggie’s owner Sam Johnson Reiss to The Washington Post. “I met Pearl and was like, ‘Wow, she is so much more like Reggie than I thought.’”
Despite a few mishaps, like Pearl being launched off a leather couch when Reggie adjusted his leg, the two played, shared toys, and even took a walk together.
“When Sam opened the door and we saw him, he had playful, happy eyes,” said Pearl’s owner Vanesa Semler during an interview with the publication. “I was so relieved because he was absolutely like a bigger puppy.”
Pearl, who fits inside a teacup and eats just an ounce of food a day, picks her custom-designed outfits each morning and drinks bottled water from a plate.
Reggie, on the other hand, has four meals daily from a raised bowl and takes up most of a king-size bed. Still, both dogs love chicken, snore loudly, and enjoy cozy winter sweaters, in very different sizes of course.
This unlikely duo proved that great friendships can come in all sizes. At the end of the visit, both dogs fell asleep, one snuggled on a lap, while the other sprawled across the couch.
“I just love the way that she’ll crawl up on your shoulder and give you loves and just make those little squeaky noises,” Sam told Vanessa. She replied, “I’m sure he would do the same thing. But it’s not like he can.”
