For Dr. Zoraida Estela Jové, improving women’s health has often meant meeting patients where they are. Years before artificial intelligence entered her medical practice, she was helping bring free mammograms to communities across Puerto Rico. Through Senos Puerto Rico, the breast-imaging center she cofounded around 2009, a mobile unit traveled across the island, giving women access to screenings that might otherwise have been difficult to obtain.

That commitment to prevention has guided much of her career. In 2011, Senos Puerto Rico became the first center on the island to receive the American College of Radiology’s Breast Imaging Center of Excellence designation. Since then, Jové has continued introducing diagnostic tools that give physicians more ways to identify potential problems early. Her practice pioneered tomosynthesis-guided breast biopsies in Puerto Rico and introduced the island’s first Automated Breast Ultrasound (ABUS) system, an important additional imaging option for women with dense breast tissue.

More recently, she has turned her attention to artificial intelligence. In November 2025, Senos Puerto Rico was announced as Koios Medical’s first customer on the island for SmartUltrasound, technology that assists doctors in evaluating breast and thyroid nodules. Jové sees its potential, but believes the physician must remain central to every diagnosis. As she explained during a 2024 gathering of women health-care leaders, AI can provide information that helps doctors confirm their readings and make more precise assessments.

Jové also encourages women to pay attention to their well-being outside the doctor's office. During a 2024 appearance on Power Up Talks, she spoke about managing stress and finding ways to improve everyday life. She knows that even a routine breast screening can be stressful, and that how a patient feels matters, too.

Medicine has also kept her close to Universidad Central del Caribe, where she graduated magna cum laude before completing her radiology residency at the University of Puerto Rico. She is now an associate professor at UCC, working with future physicians. In 2022, she opened another diagnostic center, Imágenes Puerto Rico, in Caguas, where patients can receive everything from mammograms and ultrasounds to digital X-rays and bone-density tests.

Her involvement with Susan G. Komen, Caribe Girl Scouts and Robinson School reflects an interest in supporting women and younger generations beyond her clinics. She is also a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.

As breast-imaging technology advances, Jové continues to bring those developments to Puerto Rico. For the women who visit her centers, the benefit is practical: more options for screening, better tools for physicians, and greater opportunities to address concerns before they become more serious.
