Amanda Serrano has spent much of her career reaching places women in boxing rarely occupied when she began. She has won world titles in seven weight divisions and became Puerto Rico’s first undisputed champion in the four-belt era.

In 2026, she added two more numbers to that history. In May, Serrano stopped Cheyenne Hanson in the second round for her 32nd career knockout, tying Christy Martin’s longstanding record for the most knockouts in women’s boxing. Then, in August, she defeated Argentina’s Lucrecia Manzur by majority decision to earn the 50th victory of her professional career and retain her WBA and WBO featherweight titles. The knockout record remained just out of reach.

Puerto Rico has remained central to her story. Born in Carolina and raised in New York, Serrano has represented the island throughout her career. She began 2026 with a homecoming in San Juan, where she defeated Reina Tellez and successfully defended her featherweight world titles.

Changing the Business of Women’s Boxing

Serrano’s impact can also be seen in what women are earning.

When she first faced Katie Taylor at Madison Square Garden in 2022, they became the first women to headline a boxing card at the arena. Both received reported seven-figure purses, another first for women headlining the sport.

Three years later, Taylor and Serrano returned to the Garden for the final fight of their trilogy. This time, they topped Madison Square Garden’s first all-women professional boxing card.

Now Serrano is thinking about how the story ends. Before facing Manzur, she described reaching 50 wins, pursuing the knockout record, and having a farewell fight as the final goals of her boxing career. After earning win No. 50, she said she still had one fight left and another chance to claim knockout No. 33.

Whatever comes next, the sport around her looks different from the one she entered. Serrano spent years fighting to put women on boxing’s biggest stages and to be paid accordingly. As she approaches the end of her career, a new generation is stepping onto stages she helped make possible. Serrano
