Food has always carried a deeper meaning for Claudia Sandoval. Raised in San Diego in a Mexican family with roots in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, she learned to cook alongside her mother and grandmother, inheriting flavors and techniques that would eventually become the foundation of a much bigger career.
Her 2015 victory on Season 6 of MasterChef U.S. introduced Sandoval to a national audience. Since then, she has become a cookbook author, television host and judge, Executive Producer and entrepreneur. Projects including Taste of the Border and La Mesa Mexa have also given her a platform to explore Mexican culture and life along the U.S.-Mexico border.
In 2026, Sandoval is pushing that storytelling further. She launched Bitefully with Immigrantly Media, a podcast that uses food to open conversations about culture, migration, identity and memory. She is also expanding her work as an Executive Producer, developing food and culture-driven projects informed by her experience as a Mexican American woman living and working across San Diego and Tijuana.
Through Claudia Sandoval Productions, she continues to work across television, culinary experiences, storytelling, brand strategy and production. This year, she is also bringing her cooking to Raizado in Colorado, where she says she will serve dishes inspired by her family history, including the experiences of her mother and grandmother, who worked as farmworkers after immigrating to the United States.
“Cooking has always been much bigger than food for me. It is memory, identity, family, and one of the most powerful ways I know to preserve where we come from,” Sandoval says.
For her, preserving those stories also means making room for the women coming next. Claudia’s story shows that the recipes we inherit can carry our history forward, while giving a new generation of Latinas permission to write their own.
