Honduras’ star rising in women’s softball

From an early age, Makayla García showed a competitive energy and a love for softball that she developed on the improvised fields of the neighborhood where she grew up in her hometown of San Pedro Sula, Honduras, where her enormous passion for the sport took shape.

"I remember playing with balls made of rags and old wooden bats. That's when I knew this was my path."

Today, the girl who once aspired to greatness has left a lasting impact on international softball and is considered one of Latin America's rising stars. Her rise has been inspiring and unstoppable. At 17, she started competing in international tournaments, proudly representing her country.

In her rise, the player has not only put her country in the spotlight but also become a sports icon, representing an entire generation of women who see her as a symbol of perseverance and talent.

Her life story shows that talent knows neither gender nor borders. She has been the standout player for the Texas Tech team for two years. Makayla embodies the potential of Latin America; in a traditionally male-dominated environment, she has created opportunities with each pitch and each hit.
