This year, Lupita Vidal was awarded the Gastronomical Guide of Mexican Cuisine's Best Chef of Mexico recognition. Her innovative cooking was recognized by the 80 members who make up the Editorial Council of Voters of Mexican Cuisine, an event hosted in Oaxaca, a city known for its cultural and culinary treasures.
Vidal was deeply moved by this recognition, celebrating the title and the journey she took to reach that awaited moment. She now stands at the forefront of Mexico's culinary scene.
"I want my cooking to travel through the world, but to also highlight what's special in here. Cooking Tabasco in Tabasco is an act of love for my land."
Vidal has long made it her priority to highlight the flavors of Tabasco, the region where she was born. She's been working in the restaurant "La Cevicheria" for the past 10 years, perfecting her flavors and conquering clients with her social media accounts, including a TikTok that has over 51 thousand followers.
Aside from providing a look at some of the gorgeous dishes that are prepared in the restaurant, Vidal also shares the techniques and tools of ancestral cooking that are incorporated in her dishes.
Vidal's story is one of passion, perseverance, and discipline. Her family is one of its main characters, lending Vidal a hand when she first opened the restaurant and was trying to find her footing. Their support proved invaluable in making "La Cevicheria: one of the best restaurants in Comalcalco, Tabasco.
"My husband Jesus was the waiter, my mom was the cashier, and I was the cook. I never imagined that 10 years later it would lead to all this, but all my life has been about work, so this is the consequence of planting that seed and watering it. When you make things with passion, sooner or later, something good is gonna come out of it."
"La Cevicheria" has blossomed through the hard work of Vidal and her family, and has established itself as a key player in Tabasco's food industry, with providers and producers ensuring that the restaurant has the best and freshest ingredients. This loop guarantees that tourists and visitors are satisfied and willing to return to the region.
Last year, Vidal launched "Agua y Humo," a book that shares some of her favorite recipes from her beloved Tabasco. The project has become a national success and pushes Mexico into an even higher platform when it comes to its incredible and world-renowned cuisine.
