At only 23 years old, Susana Vasquez is making waves in the music world. The gifted guitarist from Medellín, Colombia, stunned audiences at Coachella 2025, where she fulfilled a lifelong dream by performing alongside Brian May, the legendary guitarist from British rock band Queen. Affectionately known as “Sus," the guitarist has carved out a vibrant path in the music industry. Her impressive versatility has landed her collaborations with artists like Karol G and Piso 21, and she currently serves as the lead guitarist at the iconic nightclub Kukaramacara.

“I always wanted to picture myself as a chameleon, someone with the capacity to adapt, like a painter with a wide pallette of colors."

Born in Medellin, Colombia, Susana’s passion for music started early. While still in school, she began studying guitar, bass, piano, music production, theory, and composition. She initially enrolled in the Composition program at EAFIT University, but she discovered her true calling during her second year: the guitar. That’s when she focused her studies on Jazz Guitar and started receiving opportunities to perform at local events. Her first stages were at weddings, city gigs, and rock cover bands.

Her breakthrough moment came when she joined Karol G’s tour in 2019. The all-female band experience offered her a new musical perspective and a powerful professional transformation.

“I'm on tour with a rock band, and it brings me memories of my time in school and when I first started playing the guitar. It connects me to my roots. Working with Karol G is a completely different vibe, the people, the production dynamics, how I dress, and play. I’m not stuck in one style. I’m soaking up so many things."

Though she had never played reggaeton before, Sus embraced the genre wholeheartedly. The challenge became a turning point in her career and solidified her reputation for versatility. Her journey with Karol G’s groundbreaking all-women ensemble allowed her to make history in Colombian reggaeton and redefine what’s possible for women making music in all parts of the world.

Susana joined Karol G's tour in 2019, an experience that greatly expanded her relationship with music and performance.

“There’s a stigma in the industry that women can’t play instruments or be true artists. When Karol G started, there were no other female voices in the genre. She was one of the first to prove that we can,” Susana said with pride.

With a fearless spirit and chameleon-like artistry, Susana Vasquez continues to rise, one chord at a time, taking Latin music to new heights.
