Xochitl Gómez, known for her portrayal of Dawn Schafer in the first season of the successful Netflix series “The Baby-Sitters Club,” continues to make her way to the big screen.

This Mexican-American star, whose name means “flower” in Nahuatl, an indigenous language of Mexico, brought America Chávez to life in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Gómez made her Hollywood debut as the Latinx LGBTQ+ superhero. Through her role as América Chávez, she emphasizes the impact her character has on other Latinx individuals as she challenges stereotypes.

Gomez, who was 14 years old when she learned she had been cast, went through a six-month casting process. This news brought her to tears of excitement, marking her first appearance on screen since she was ten when she had a cameo role in the movie “Intertwined” starring Mo’nique.
