Karol G was honored at the 52nd American Music Awards in Las Vegas on Monday night, and with so much spotlight on her, she made sure to deliver one of the boldest fashion statements of the evening.

The Colombian superstar embraced a dark romantic aesthetic in a custom two-piece look designed by Natalia Fedner, as reported by WWD. The ensemble featured a shredded sheer black top layered over a triangle bralette and paired with a voluminous black bubble skirt that swept the carpet dramatically. Torn sleeves and distressed edges added a gothic finish, while the cropped silhouette exposed her midsection and amplified the avant-garde styling.

Her glam continued the look's textured mood. Celebrity hairstylist Cesar Deleon Ramirez created long saltwater curls cascading over her shoulders, giving the singer an undone, beach-meets-runway effect. Her makeup leaned into smoky drama with charcoal shadow framing her eyes, while soft bubblegum blush and a pink-toned lip kept the overall beauty look youthful and fresh.

But the night was bigger than fashion. During the ceremony, Karol G was presented with the International Artist Award of Excellence by John Legend, marking another major milestone in her global career. “Wow. What an honor, John, that you gave me this award. It's legend. This is going to be a legend moment in my career for sure,” Karol said during her emotional acceptance speech. “I feel very, very grateful. First of all, thank you, God. He allows me to live the most incredible, amazing experience in my life.”

The “Tusa” singer reflected on the deeper meaning behind her music and connection with fans around the world. “I want to say that more than anything, this career has given me the most important thing in my life: purpose,” she continued. “I found purpose through my music. I'm just happy that I can perform a song, and I can say things in my songs that become a voice for a lot of people. A healing place, a safe place.”

Karol ended her speech with a heartfelt message in Spanish. “For all of my fans all over the world, I love you so much, thank you.”

The surprises did not stop there. After her speech, Legend returned to the microphone to announce that Karol had also won Best Latin Album for “Tropicoqueta.” The singer immediately screamed in excitement.

Earlier in the night, Karol took the stage for a special performance of “Ivonny Bonita,” one of the standout tracks from “Tropicoqueta.”
