Blue Ivy Carter’s Met Gala 2026 debut broke the event’s rules, and we are glad! Here’s why

Blue Ivy Carter is just 14, and in addition to being one of the youngest Grammy Award recipients, she is also one of the youngest people to ever step onto one of the most exclusive red carpets in the world. Making her Met Gala debut in 2026, the young star arrived alongside her parents, Beyoncé and Jay-Z, showing how, at a young age, she can also deliver high fashion.

For fashion’s biggest stage, Blue wore a cream strapless gown by Balenciaga. The design featured a structured bustier bodice that sculpted the silhouette, flowing into a dramatic bubble-hem skirt.

Ty Hunter, who styled Blue and her mom, also made sure to tell a clear story. Hunter added layers with a cropped bomber jacket over the gown, which, on occasion, Blue wore casually off the shoulders.

The cat-eye sunglasses introduced a cool attitude, while her diamond rivière necklace sat cleanly along her neckline. On her feet, the actress wore sculptural gold glitter heels.

Breaking the Rules

The Met Gala has maintained a strict age policy in recent years, limiting attendance to guests 18 and older. However, exceptions are occasionally granted, and Blue Ivy’s presence made that clear.

Accompanied by her parents, she became one of the youngest attendees in modern Met Gala history. She wasn’t the only exception that night. Nicole Kidman attended with her 17-year-old daughter, Sunday Rose Urban.

While Blue’s look spoke volumes, the emotional highlight came from her mother. Beyoncé shared her admiration during Vogue’s livestream. “She looks so beautiful. It’s incredible to be able to share it with her,” she said.

It is not known if Blue Ivy’s look directly references a specific artwork or sculpture, yet it did embody the concept through structure and form, specifically in the exaggerated proportions of the skirt and the architectural bodice.
