At Sunday’s FIFA Club World Cup final in New Jersey, the soccer world might have had its eyes on Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain, but fashion watchers were focused on something else entirely, Melania Trump’s sunglasses.
Arriving alongside President Donald Trump at MetLife Stadium, the First Lady drew attention with her distinctly curated look, stepping out in a bold pair of white Christian Dior shades that shielded much of her face.
The DiorNuit S1I sunglasses, with their thick, cat-eyed frames and gold logo on wide temples, were no quiet accessory. They demanded attention intentionally or not.
She paired the oversized eyewear with a polished, monochrome outfit, which consisted of a fitted white tee tucked into a crisp, knee-length pencil skirt.
Melania completed the ensemble with a tailored navy blazer slung casually over her shoulders and pointed white stilettos from Manolo Blahnik, making for a silhouette that felt polished and guarded.
The sunglasses, introduced by Dior back in Spring 2023, may not be part of Jonathan Anderson’s current vision for the brand, but they remain a striking emblem of Melania’s signature aesthetic.
This isn’t the first time Melania’s eyewear has stirred public interest, or conspiracy theories, as she has a preference for face-obscuring sunglasses in both formal and casual settings.
Online talk about “Fake Melania” body double rumors date back to 2017. But at MetLife Stadium, there was no doubt who was behind the frames.
From the presidential box, where the Trumps watched the match alongside FIFA President Gianni Infantino and Leena Al Ashqar.
Interestingly, she wasn’t alone in the white-sunglass trend this week. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman was spotted in a similar pair of blocky, oversized frames by Vuarnet at the annual Sun Valley tech summit.
The Club World Cup final also marked a significant anniversary, one year since the failed assassination attempt on President Trump. “It remains my firm conviction that God alone saved me that day for a righteous purpose,” he said in a statement after the match.
Just days earlier, Melania had taken a more subdued approach during a Texas visit. There, she wore a khaki anorak jacket, army-green pants, black Converse, and another pair of large dark sunglasses.
