Jenna Ortega stole the show at the 'Hurry Up Tomorrow' premiere in New York on Tuesday, May 13, with a stunning callback to early 2000s fashion. The 22-year-old actress turned heads in an iconic Christian Dior “newspaper” mini dress, a rare archival piece first introduced in John Galliano’s Fall/Winter 2000 collection.
Best known as a staple of Sex and the City’s Carrie Bradshaw, the dress became pop culture canon after Sarah Jessica Parker wore it in Season 3 of the hit HBO series. The look reemerged in Sex and the City 2 in 2010 and was auctioned for $80,000 in June 2024.
Jenna paired the dress with strappy gold Jimmy Choo heels and a simple Dior coin necklace. The actress rocked a glamorous makeup look, featuring gold-flecked smoky eyes, bronzed cheeks, and her brunette bob parted down the middle in soft waves.
Jenna became a Dior ambassador in 2023, and while many celebrities and stars have reinterpreted the newspaper dress, including Emily Ratajkowski in 2022 and Kim Kardashian in 2019, Jenna wore the exact dress and credited her longtime stylist for the jaw-dropping fashion moment.
"I don't know how it's even possible that I'm wearing this dress," she told MTV on the red carpet. "My incredible stylist Enrique Melendez is obsessed with 'Sex and the City' and he was thinking 'Oh, man, New York, what's a good New York theme?'"
"There's probably nothing more New York than Carrie Bradshaw," she said to the publication. "There was a million conversations being had but I feel so lucky and so privileged to be able to be able to wear such a stunning dress," she added, before admitting that "it just kind of slipped right on." "It's perfect, definitely one of my favorites," she said.
The 'Wednesday' star was joined on the carpet by 'Hurry Up Tomorrow' producer and lead actor The Weeknd, who wore a long brown coat over an all-black ensemble with leather gloves and aviator shades. Her co-star Barry Keoghan kept it casual-cool in a black bomber jacket, plaid trousers, and polished boots.
