Although 25 years have passed since her death, Selena Quintanilla’s legacy lives on in the hearts of her followers and in the minds of many fashion designers. If we look closely at the outfits that set the trend today, we will see that the Queen of Tejano music had already perfected these looks. Pants at the waist, crop tops, western belts and XL rings are just some of the trends the Bidi bidi bom bom singer enjoyed wearing that are still as chic.

1. Crop Tops

Selena was one of the first artists to wear crop tops, a garment that at the time was considered daring, but which became part of her iconic look. The interpreter of Como la Flor almost always added bright touches and combined them with pants at the waist, another trend that has also returned.

2. Western belts

The belts that dominated the 1990s have now returned to the window displays of ready-to-wear brands like Zara, Mango, Stradivarius and H&M.

3. Red lips

An intense tone, with a smooth and matte texture. The red lipstick was one of Selena’s holy grails when it came to makeup.

4. XL hoops

Oversized hoops were the go-to accessory for Selena. Like Jennifer Lopez who has quickly become the queen of hoops, the late singer was often seen with earring of different sizes.

5. Transparent tops

On more than one occasion, Selena chose outfits that included long-sleeved see-through tops that left the bra on display. A trend that stars like Alejandra Espinoza, Khloé Kardashian and Olivia Culpo also wear today.

6. Mom jeans

The high-cut and semi-baggy jeans that Selena wore - as seen in this concert held in January 1991 - have won several closets today.

7. Tie front tops

While this style of top has recently become popular among stars and influences, Selena was already a fan of them almost 30 years ago.
