Cardi B dominates BET Awards 2026 with explosive performance and apparent Nicki Minaj shade

Cardi B delivered one of the biggest moments of the 2026 BET Awards, opening the show with a theatrical performance before walking away with one of the night's biggest honors. The rapper's appearance quickly became one of the most talked-about highlights of the ceremony, thanks to her bold stage production, eye-catching fashion, and lyrics that many fans interpreted as another shot in her long-running rivalry with Nicki Minaj. 

Held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, the annual celebration of Black music and culture featured performances from some of the industry's biggest stars. Still, Cardi B managed to command the conversation from the moment she appeared on stage.

Cardi B Opens the BET Awards in Style

Cardi kicked off the show with a medley of songs from her latest album, “Am I the Drama?,” including "Hello," "Check Please," "Errtime," and "Pretty & Petty." She made a dramatic entrance atop a motorcycle before moving through an elaborate set featuring dancers, city-inspired visuals, a roulette table, and a pole performance.

Her fashion was just as unforgettable as the performance. Sporting bright red curls, a futuristic corset, thigh-high purple boots, fishnet tights, and an oversized purple coat, Cardi embraced a bold new look that immediately drew attention across social media. 

Later in the evening, she switched into a sleek black gown with waist-length black hair to accept her award.

Fans Believe "Pretty & Petty" Included Another Nicki Minaj Jab

Although Cardi B did not mention Nicki Minaj by name during the performance, online discussion quickly focused on her delivery of "Pretty & Petty." The song already contains boastful lyrics about industry success and BET Awards recognition, while music critics have also noted that other songs from “Am I the Drama?” contain bars widely interpreted as aimed at Nicki Minaj, continuing their years-long rivalry.

The performance reignited debate among fans, with many arguing that Cardi's decision to perform those tracks during one of hip hop's biggest award shows added another chapter to one of rap's most famous feuds.

Neither Cardi B nor Nicki Minaj publicly addressed the renewed speculation following the ceremony.

Cardi B Wins Best Female Hip Hop Artist

Adding to her successful night, Cardi B won the BET Award for Best Female Hip Hop Artist after entering the ceremony as the most nominated artist with six nominations. The victory marked another milestone in her decorated career and reinforced her position among the genre's biggest stars, as reported by Reuters.

During her acceptance speech, Cardi kept her remarks brief, thanking God and expressing appreciation for her children, while largely avoiding any controversy despite the online conversation surrounding her performance.
