As 2025 came to a close, Kali Uchis embraced the holiday season surrounded by family, festive traditions, and the joy of her new baby. Between 'villancicos,' playful holiday classics, and family gatherings, the singer also witnessed a creative milestone, her new Spanish-language track 'Muévelo' went viral across TikTok, giving fans a reason to celebrate alongside her.
“We put on villancicos, fill the house with a mix of holiday music from here and Colombia,” she shared in an exclusive interview with ¡HOLA! “A mix of ‘Mi Burrito Sabanero’ and ‘I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus’ is a must.”
The song began as a snippet that fans embraced and amplified on TikTok, sparking a wave of excitement across Latin America. Within days, the clip racked up over 300 million views, particularly in Mexico, Colombia, and Argentina. While the virality was thrilling, Kali admitted it initially brought a mix of emotions.
“I didn’t think it would go viral,” she said. “I just felt that annoying feeling of another unfinished idea leaked to the world without my consent. I don’t actually have TikTok on my phone, so it wasn’t until last week they told me it was going viral. I was irritated at first because I hate to rush my art and I have a lot of projects I’m balancing with motherhood already.”
Motivated to give her fans a proper release, Kali locked herself in the studio to finish the song and shot the visuals while her son napped.
“It is annoying to rush something but it does feel good to just get it out already. It’s a blessing of course to have the fans connecting with something, and I just wanted to deliver in time for them to make memories over the holiday parties with it,” she said.
'Muévelo' pulses with rhythm, movement, and liberation, capturing the energy of letting go and celebrating life. “I was inspired immediately just by that experience of wanting to go out with your girls and ignoring nasty men,” Kali explained.
Creating in Spanish also allows her to explore unique rhymes and emotions that differ from her English-language work. “I think for me, it allows you to play with different rhymes and feelings in the words themselves, in ways that in English doesn’t hit the same."
She added, "I am the same person in both languages, just the way they communicate and the genres they touch give way to explore more,” she said." Releasing the song at the end of 2025 feels symbolic, signaling a new creative phase as she heads into 2026.
“There will be more songs in Spanish for sure. The fact that this demo became viral was wild because I never thought the demo would see the light of day but here we are, me exploring more Spanish music for 2026, getting ready for my Latin American tour in February, and then all of a sudden this goes viral and spreads. God’s timing and plan is greater than any we can have of course,” she shared.
Kali is particularly excited to return to Latin America for her upcoming tour, reflecting on the personal significance of performing as a new mother.
“Some of my favorite concerts have been in places like Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Brazil among others and just like with 'Telepatía,' the momentum came from Latin America with ‘Muévelo’, so I am excited to go and tour and perform these songs there."
"Now, as a mom, touring feels different (even more special) because I get to share it with my son and let him connect with this part of me,” she said.
As the holidays fade into the new year, Kali Uchis enters 2026 embracing family, music, and personal growth. With her son, her fans, and the energy of “Muévelo” propelling her forward, the new year promises to be a milestone both onstage and at home.
