Mariah Carey is officially returning to the spotlight with “Type Dangerous”, her first standalone original single in several years. Set to drop this Friday, June 6th, the pop superstar teased the track with a glammed-up video posted to social media, where she lounges in a luxury ride wearing a custom tank top emblazoned with the song’s title.
Known for reinventing eras with style and sass, Carey’s latest move signals a high-gloss, high-drama return that fans (and the charts) won’t want to miss.
She sings in the teaser: “Looking for the dangerous type/ I like them dangerous/That’s my type/ I said I love them dangerous.”
Her most recent album, ‘Caution,’ was released in 2018, but earlier this week, she teased the new track, ‘MC16’, which appears to refer to her upcoming 16th album.
Despite not releasing a new album in seven years and counting, Mariah promised she had been busy writing. When asked what’s next, she told Best magazine late last year: “I have a lot I want to do. I’m busy.
“I’m writing new material, so there is new music and a new album coming sometime in the future. I’m not sure when. I’m just enjoying the songwriting process.”
She’s still kept busy, and just last year, she featured on Ariana Grande’s ‘Yes, And?’ remix. Last month, she revealed a 20th-anniversary version of ‘The Emancipation of Mimi’, which featured bonus tracks, collaborations, capella versions, remixes, and live recordings.
Mariah has admitted she is still “really proud” of the record. She added: “‘The Emancipation of Mimi’ is another album I’m really proud of. It was kind of a comeback album for me at the time, and it’s still one of my favorites.”
“Celebrating and performing some of those songs this year was special.” Mariah was also amazed that her ‘Merry Christmas’ album celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2024, and she couldn’t believe it had been so long since she had worked on the festive collection.
She said: “It really doesn’t. I usually don’t like to think about numbers like that, but we have a 30th anniversary of the ‘Merry Christmas album out, which I’m excited about. I’m so happy people still love to listen to it.”
