Anitta pulls out of Coachella three weeks before opening weekend

Her absence means one less Latino representing at the iconic music festival

The 2025 Coachella lineup just took a hit—Anitta has officially pulled out. The Brazilian superstar broke the news herself on X, formerly known as Twitter, confirming that she won’t be taking the stage at either of her scheduled performances.

Anitta was set to perform on April 12 and 19, but announced on X that she had to withdraw due to "unexpected personal reasons." "I was really looking forward to being at Coachella this year, but due to unexpected personal reasons, I won’t be able to perform. I’m truly grateful to the festival for the invitation, their understanding, and continued support," she wrote.

The "Back for More" singer also reassured fans that she hopes to return in the future, adding in a follow-up tweet, "I hope to have the opportunity to join you all in the future and share that special moment together."

This would have marked Anitta’s third time at the legendary festival. She made her Coachella debut in 2022, bringing her signature Brazilian funk and high-energy stage presence to the Empire Polo Club, and Peso Pluma brought her out during his set in 2024.

Her 2022 set was one of the weekend’s most talked-about performances, blending global influences with her bold, sensual charisma. She also surprised fans by bringing out Snoop Dogg and Saweetie, cementing her status as a crossover star capable of commanding an international audience.

Anitta’s withdrawal is a disappointment for fans looking forward to another high-energy performance, especially considering her global success in the last few years. She’s made history as the first Brazilian artist to win a VMA, scored a global hit with "Envolver," and collaborated with some of the biggest names in music, including Madonna, J Balvin, and Maluma.

Despite pulling out of Coachella, Anitta is scheduled to perform at Baja Beach Fest in August, where she will make history as the first Brazilian artist to take the stage—assuming all goes as planned. So far, there’s been no word of her withdrawing from that lineup.

Unfortunately, her absence means one less Latina representing the culture at this year’s festival, which already has limited Latin representation. Coachella has often been criticized for its lack of Latino headliners - despite the festival taking place in California, home to a massive Latino population. Plus, Indio has deep historical ties to the Latino community and the United Farm Workers (UFW), given its location in the Coachella Valley—an agricultural hub where many Mexican and Mexican-American farmworkers have labored for generations.

This year, the lineup still features some standout Latino acts, including The Marías, Ca7riel & Paco Amoroso, Ivan Cornejo, Vintage Culture, Alok, Rawayana, Thee Sacred Souls, Junior H, El Malilla, Los Mirlos, and Arca. Still, Anitta’s exit leaves a noticeable gap, especially given her ability to bring Brazilian music and culture to a massive audience.

As of now, there’s no word on whether Coachella will replace Anitta with another artist, but with the festival just weeks away, the lineup appears to be set.
