The Netflix series that took the world by storm in October is getting another season. ‘Emily in Paris’ stars Lily Collins who is an American marketing executive from Chicago. Emily lands her dream job in Paris after her company acquires a French luxury marketing company. While she revamps the companies social media, she navigates work, making friends new adventures, and love in Paris.
The series return was announced by Netflix in a hilarious spoof letter written by Emily’s French boss, Sylvie (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu). The letter was written to Madeline Wheele, her boss in Chicago. The letter hilariously starts with “We are sorry!” in french. “We are writing to regrettably inform you that Emily Cooper will need to remain in Paris for an extended period of time. Despite her overconfident manner and lack of prior experience and luxury goods marketing, she has nonetheless managed to charm some of our hard-to-impress clients during her short time at Savoir. Call it bonne chance or American ingenuity- I’m leaning towards the former- her current results are impressive. We hope that by extending her time in Paris, Emily will further the relationships she has already made, delve deeper into our culture, and perhaps pick up a few words of basic French. We will work in conjunction with you on the plane for a work permit on her behalf to prolong her time here. We love having Emily in Paris! But please don’t let her know that.”
Lilly Collins reacted to the big news on Twitter and wrote, “Deux is better than un. I’m freaking out and beyond thrilled (much to Sylvie’s dismay) to announce #EmilyinParis will be returning to @netflix for Season 2! Thank you guys for the love and support and I hope you’re as excited as we are!!
The show has gotten mixed reviews from the start and it seems as though people either love or hate the show. It received a lot of criticism from French people who called it unrealistic and stereotypical. One of the show’s stars, Lucas Bravo (Gabriel) even agreed with French critics. “I think they’re right in a way,” he recently told Cosmopolitan. “We’re portraying clichés and we’re portraying one single vision of Paris. Paris is one of the most diverse cities in the world.” But the shows creator Darren Star is standing by it. “The show is a love letter to Paris through the eyes of this American girl who has never been there. The first thing she is seeing is the clichés, because it’s from her point of view.” He continued, “I’m not sorry for looking at Paris through a glamorous lens. It’s a beautiful city, and I wanted to do a show that celebrated that part of Paris.”
