Ricky Martin has reacted to rumors that have linked him to Eduardo Verástegui for more than 20 years. This is the first time the Puerto Rican artist has addressed the false claims that he had a romantic relationship with the fellow singer. Far from being annoyed, the singer took it with humor, sharing his stance in the cheekiest way on his social media.
Recently, the rumors about Ricky Martin and Eduardo Verástegui resurfaced after Verástegui vehemently denied a few days ago that he had been involved with Ricky in the past.
The "La Mordidita" singer used his social media to respond to the false claims, asserting that he had never been with Eduardo Verástegui in any way other than professionally: "Laughing here because what else can I do. Just so we're clear, I have NEVER seen Eduardo Verástegui's 'pipí'—not his 'pipí' or ANYTHING."
Taking advantage of the message, Ricky added the link to his new video "Pikito pikito" with Pedro Sampaio, inviting his followers to watch the music video.
Where did the rumor linking Ricky Martin and Eduardo Verástegui come from?
Journalist Ana María Alvarado explained how the rumor started. Back in the nineties, Eduardo Verástegui and Aracely Arámbula co-starred in the teen telenovela Soñadoras. On the show, they were a couple, and as they spent time together, their friendship as colleagues turned into a relationship.
Alvarado said on the show Sale el Sol that one day she and journalist Fabián Lavalle were at a Ricky Martin concert in Mexico City. Aracely Arámbula was with them. According to the journalist, the actress allegedly said the following: "And to think that the guy up there singing stole my boyfriend."
The journalist says that Aracely probably doesn't remember her comment, as it happened 20 years ago. However, she stands by what she said: "The truth is I experienced it. He says it was a lie, but I lived it," stated Ana María Alvarado.
Eduardo Verástegui denies the rumors about Ricky Martin
A few days ago, Eduardo Verástegui met with several media outlets, and the topic came up again. He was asked about his stance on what Aracely Arámbula had allegedly said years ago.
"She's a friend; we've been friends for almost 30 years. I know her family, she knows my family, and we are very good friends. Just like many colleagues I've worked with for 30 years. We are still friends. With all those colleagues and with Aracely, well, I love her very much, and she is a great woman whom I admire a lot," he said about his relationship with the actress.
"No, she has never commented on or confirmed that at all, especially since it's a lie, and you all know it. Obviously, you've been asking me the same thing for 20 years. Be more creative, ask me something else, right?" he replied regarding the rumors linking him to Ricky Martin.
The producer was also asked if the constant speculation about his sexual orientation affects him. "No, not at all, I know who I am, you know? If I were worried about what people think of me... well, I am who I am, just as you know who you are. And that, in the end, gives you a certain security, right? In your convictions and in what you stand for, right?" he concluded.
