Khloé Kardashian is keeping the door open to becoming a mother for a third time, but she already knows what she doesn't want her future family to look like.
In a recent episode of The Kardashians, the reality star revealed that ex Tristan Thompson legally signed over their frozen embryos to her following their breakup, giving her the option to welcome another child without needing his involvement.
However, Kardashian admitted that she's still unsure whether she has the capacity to raise another baby. “When you have a baby, it’s forever. So, choose wisely, people,” Kardashian told her mother, Kris Jenner.
The Good American founder, who shares daughter True, 8, and son Tatum, 4, with Thompson, explained that her past relationships have changed how she approaches the idea of having more children.
“In my dating life, I’ve been through a lot of situations that have caused me trauma,” she said. “I’m not gonna ‘woe is me’ about the trauma. I think what is ideal is to be with someone else and not necessarily have kids with that person.”
Kardashian went on to explain that she doesn't want a future marriage to disrupt the family dynamic she has established with her two children.
“I don’t want me and my husband to have kids, and then my kids feel like, ‘Oh, we’re not as important because their daddy lives in this house,’” she explained. “I don’t want to cause a lot of disruption within my household because I love the way it is.”
But while Kardashian may be hesitant about expanding her family with a future partner, she hasn't completely ruled out another baby, and her arrangement with Thompson means the decision could ultimately be hers.
“I own the embryo [with Tristan] outright. Don’t even need to tell Tristan that this is happening because I own them,” she said. “They’re my embryos. When we broke up, I had him sign that I could have it. And it’s legally done. So it’s my embryo.”
The 42-year-old added that she's torn between wanting to give her children another sibling and acknowledging how much work another baby would require.
“But I don’t know if I have the bandwidth to have another baby,” she admitted. “I love sisters, and I do believe that every girl needs a sister, and I personally would love another daughter. But also, I’m getting older, and it’s a lot. I just feel like I don’t know if this is something I can handle.”
The reality star also made it clear that if she does decide to have another child, she would want to use one of the embryos she created with Thompson rather than start the process with someone new.
“I’m gonna say that the surrogate is pregnant. Or I’m gonna not have another baby,” she said. “Marriage, you can divorce them. If you don’t have kids, you don’t have to see them again.”
Aside from her children, Koko has also become the primary caretaker for Tristan's brother Amari, who lives with a severe form of epilepsy,
