Katy Perry may be used to performing for thousands of screaming fans, but having Justin Trudeau in the audience had her feeling a little more jittery than usual.
The pop star recently opened up about performing in front of her then-new boyfriend for the first time during her Lifetimes Tour, admitting that she struggled to even look at the former Canadian prime minister while she was onstage.
Justin Trudeau Had Katy Feeling The Butterflies
During a VIP screening of Katy Perry: The Lifetimes Tour — Live from Paris on Wednesday, Aug. 26, Perry, 41, explained that nerves aren't usually something she deals with when performing.
“I always create a super special fan experience,” Perry said during the event. “But I don’t typically get nervous.”
© IG: Katy PerryShe admitted that she might feel some opening-night butterflies as everything comes together, especially with the pressure of social media and wanting the show to go perfectly.
But her Montreal performance was a different story.
“When the documentary comes, y’all might see me in a different way because … in Montreal, I was like, ‘I can’t look at him,’” she recalled. “A lot of energy.”
They Had Only Been Dating For A Few Days
Trudeau was spotted near the front of the crowd at Perry’s sold-out Montreal concert in July 2025. Videos from the show showed the former Canadian leader smiling and watching as Perry performed.
The timing made the moment even more significant: The pair had reportedly only been dating for a few days when Trudeau showed up to support her.
And apparently, having a brand-new boo watching from the audience was enough to throw Perry off her game.
Daisy Was Also Watching Mom Do Her Thing
Perry also had another VIP in the audience that night—her 6-year-old daughter, Daisy.
The singer shares Daisy with her former fiancé, Orlando Bloom, and said it was especially meaningful for her daughter to watch her perform and see her fully in her element.

Perry Is Living Life Without Regrets
The singer also reflected on the criticism and doubts that surrounded her tour when it first kicked off.
“I think in the beginning of this tour, from the outside, everyone that wants to have a hot take, there were a lot of people betting against me,” Perry said.
But instead of letting the negativity get to her, she said she’s determined to enjoy the moment and live without holding herself back.
“I’m having fun. I’m living my whole life,” she said. “You want to call me the queen of cringe? I’m gonna suck the juice out of every single one of these fruits in this life. I’m gonna never have any regrets. I’m gonna leave no stone unturned. I’m going to live my life to the fullest. I am not scared.”
Things Got ‘Really Cute’ After A Rough Patch
Perry acknowledged that the tour wasn't always an easy ride. Being away from home for weeks at a time took a toll, especially when she was missing important moments with friends and family.
“It wasn’t always peachy-keen jelly bean,” she said, noting that there were difficult days along the way.
“I was gone for like six weeks, and that’s pretty much my max. I started to go insane, and I remember I was having a really tough time,” she recalled.
Then, according to Perry, things suddenly shifted.
© GC Images“And then after the hurricane came the rainbow,” she said, describing the change as happening almost instantly.
Perry even cheekily referenced her new romance while speaking to the crowd, whispering, “I went to Canada.”
She went on to describe herself as “floating like the butterfly,” suggesting that the difficult period eventually gave way to a much happier chapter.
“But before that, I remember it was actually the lowest part,” she said.
Now, with her tour, daughter and new relationship all part of the picture, Perry seems determined to embrace every bit of the ride—even the cringe moments.
