Years before they became one of Hollywood's favorite couples, Nick Jonas wanted proof he was actually texting Priyanka Chopra.
During an appearance on the Hey Jonas podcast, Priyanka revealed that Nick's very first text wasn't exactly flirty. Instead, he asked her to send a photo of herself looking directly at the camera with a timestamp to verify it was really her.
"I'll tell you what that first text was," she recalled. "He wanted to corroborate that it was actually me. So he asked me for a photo—that moment—looking into the camera with a time stamp."
While the request caught her off guard, Priyanka admitted she understood where he was coming from. "I was like, 'That is so sus of me already,'" she joked. "But I appreciated it too."
Nick tried to remember the photo as one involving peanut butter, but Priyanka quickly corrected him. "No," she said, "It was after a fashion show. I was cute that day."
The exchange marked the beginning of a relationship that unfolded slowly. According to Nick, the pair texted for about a year and a half before officially dating, eventually leading to their engagement and December 2018 wedding.
They welcomed their daughter, Malti, in 2022. The couple also revisited the message that started it all. Nick explained he first noticed Priyanka after spotting a billboard promoting Quantico on Sunset Boulevard.
Curious, he checked whether she followed him on social media before deciding to send her a direct message. "Hello, I've heard from a few people that we should meet," Nick wrote. "I have to agree with these people. Are you in L.A. anytime soon?"
Priyanka responded by suggesting they continue the conversation over text, noting that her team had access to her social media messages. Fast forward to 2026, the couple will be celebrating their 8-year wedding anniversary in December.
Their parenthood journey
While reminiscing about how their romance began, the couple also reflected on how life has changed since welcoming their daughter, Malti, in 2022. Priyanka said becoming a parent has shown her she's capable of far more than she ever imagined.
"It just teaches you how resilient you are as a human," she said. "How much you're capable of because you love this thing so much more than anything ever before."
Nick, meanwhile, took a moment to praise his wife, calling her parenting style one of the things he admires most about her. "You are so patient and so thoughtful in the way you communicate with our daughter," he said. "It's so inspiring to me."
