As rumors about Jorge Messi’s health began circulating on social media, Lionel Messi’s family decided to speak out and issue an official statement to stop the speculation. In recent hours, some outlets even went so far as to report the alleged death of the 68-year-old, a baseless and deeply troubling claim that sparked concern among fans of the Argentine superstar.

The family’s statement sought to put an end to the unfounded reports, emphasizing that Jorge Messi is surrounded by loved ones and receiving medical care. They also asked for privacy and respect during what they described as a sensitive time.

“The Messi family wishes to inform the public that Jorge is currently facing a health situation. At this time, he remains under medical supervision, recovering and showing favorable progress within the scope of his condition,” the statement reads.

Addressing the false reports directly, the family added: “In light of the rumors, speculation, and reports that have circulated in recent hours, the family would like to express its deep disappointment over the lack of sensitivity, respect, and decency with which some individuals have treated what is strictly a private family matter.”

Concern over Jorge Messi’s health intensified after Lionel Messi was seen in tears during Argentina’s opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The emotional moment came on the field shortly after the Argentine captain scored the first of his team’s three goals against Algeria.

Hours later, it became clear that Messi’s emotions were not related to his performance in the tournament, but rather to the difficult family circumstances he is currently facing.

“What I’m dealing with has absolutely nothing to do with soccer,” Messi said during a post-match press conference following the group-stage victory. “I’ve been through some difficult and complicated days, but I’m grateful to everyone in the delegation and to my teammates, who have been by my side as always, giving me strength and helping me stay focused.”
