John Cena and Jennifer Garner are drawing major attention in the Dominican Republic, where the stars have been spotted filming scenes for Netflix’s action comedy “One Attempt Remaining.” Recent social clips circulating online show the pair in Puerto Plata, a major coastal city in the Dominican Republic. The city is a major trading port as well as a tourism hub.
The project is expected to be one of Jennifer Garner’s most intriguing comedic returns, pairing her with Cena. According to TUDUM, the plot centers on an ex-couple that “learns that the cryptocurrency they won on a crazy night on a cruise is now worth millions, but they've forgotten the password needed to access the funds.”
The story develops as they only have “three days left until the account expires, they must retrace their steps that night, not just to figure out the password to their fortune, but also to rediscover why they fell in love in the first place.”
The Dominican Republic Keeps Landing Big Movie Productions
The Dominican Republic has become far more than a vacation postcard, where tourists all over the world travel to Punta Cana to enjoy luxury resorts and the coastline. The country has quietly turned into a major filming hub for Hollywood, thanks to DR’s tax incentives, diverse landscapes, and production-friendly infrastructure.
Production companies can benefit from the jungle terrain found in the Anamuya in the municipality of Higüey, La Altagracia province, and the colonial architecture of Santo Domingo.
That versatility seems to be the reason why it appealed to the director of “One Attempt Remaining,” which is using the island’s setting for action-heavy sequences.
An Unexpected Pairing That Works
What makes this production interesting is the pairing of Garner and Cena. Jennifer Garner has built a career after appearing in “Alias” and family comedies. Cena, meanwhile, has built a second act in Hollywood, leaning hard into comedic action, including “Blockers” and “Peacemaker.”
The “One Attempt Remaining” cast also includes Kate McKinnon (Saturday Night Live), Aimee Carrero (Your Friends & Neighbors), Yara Shahidi (Grown-ish), Nyambi Nyambi (The Good Fight, Mike & Molly), Larry Wilmore (Jerry & Marge Go Large), Gilles Marini (1923), Abdul Seidu (Poser), Alan Barinholtz (Jury Duty, Running Point), and Carol Mansell (Night Court, UnPrisoned).
In addition, Garner will produce the feature, alongside 21 Laps’ Shawn Levy, Dan Levine, and Nicole King. Netflix informed that “One Attempt Remaining” was written by Joe Boothe, Alexa Alemanni, and Cannon.
