Hilary Duff is in her musical comeback era, and she's getting vulnerable. The actress and singer has been surprising fans with new music and is even performing live again for the first time in 10 years. Hilary has kept many aspects of her life private, including her relationship with her older sister Hailey. Amid rumors of a rift, Hilary performed a new song titled "We Don't Talk" that seems to be about her.
Hilary performed in her first “Small Rooms, Big Nerves” show at London’s O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire on Monday, where she shared a new song sampling Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used to Know," with telling lyrics.
"We come from the same home, the same blood,” the 38-year-old sang. It's clearly someone she grew up with, as she sings her desire to “get back to how we were as kids.” Hailey is two years older than her, and they have no other siblings.
The Lizzie McGuire star went on to sing about her desire for them to talk it out. “Let’s have it out / I’ll hear you out, you’ll hear me out on the couch," she sings." Let’s break it down / So sick of being so sad about / How we don’t talk and you won’t talk about it.”
Hilary hinted at some kind of blowout, singing that she's “Not even sure what it was about." “If I did something different / Would you feel something different? / Would you at least let me hear you out?”
The mother of 4 then questioned if jealousy was the potential issue, “If it’s ’cause you’re jealous / God knows I would sell it all, then break you off the bigger half," she sings.
If jealousy is the issue, Hilary's musical comeback may not help the situation. Haylie was on her own musical journey, and they even released music together, like "Our Lips are Sealed" in 2012.
The mommy group drama
The sisters' rumored feud recently had a resurgence after Ashley Tisdale wrote an essay with The Cut about leaving her "mean girl" and "toxic" mommy group.
Hilary was one of the moms fans speculated was in the group, and the internet imploded. There were many clues, including one from Haylie. Fans noticed she "liked" Tisdale's promo, which convinced them it was her way of confirming it was about her sister and choosing sides.
When did the feud begin?
As noted by Page Six, the sisters have not been pictured together since 2019. The popular blind item site DeuxMoi alleged it has to do with Hilary's husband, Matthew Koma. They claimed the singer doesn't get along with Haylie or her fiancé, Matthew Rosenberg.
Hilary's set to release her upcoming album, “Luck… or Something,” on February 20, 2026, and from the sound of it, she's getting candid. Hilary told Rolling Stone in November 2025 that she was finally ready to open up with her new music.
After signing with Atlantic Records, shes ready to connect with fans that “have gone through a lot of the same things, whether that’s complicated relationships, anxiety, raising kids, divorces, trying to find yourself in adulthood, or family drama.”
Time will tell if we get more songs about Haylie or a reconciliation in the future.
