Former Barcelona star Gerard Piqué served as a guest professor at Harvard Business School in November 2025, teaching students about the Kings League. The 38-year-old athlete and businessman visited the Business School in Boston, Massachusetts, to break down the social-media-first, seven-a-side format he launched in November 2022.

He also marked the moment on Instagram, sharing a photo from the classroom and a shot posing in front of the Harvard Business School sign.

The ex-Barcelona center-back teamed up with Anita Elberse, the renowned director of the MBA course Business of Entertainment, Media and Sports, and researcher David Moreno, and they prepared a case study on how the Kings League was established, grew into one of the most popular products in the sport, and changed audience expectations.

Gerard, who split from singer Shakira, 48, in 2022 after 11 years together amid rumors he cheated on her, captioned the post with: “It was an honor to address students at @harvard Business School about the publication of a new case study on Kings League!”

The session led by Gerard, who sat in the same classroom eight years prior when Anita taught him as part of his four-day executive version of the course, covered a social-media-first narrative, a disruptive competition format, and a deep, direct connection with its community.

The Kings League began as a seven-a-side league in Spain, featuring rules different from traditional soccer, including a tie-breaker penalty shootout and unlimited substitutions. As of today, the league has expanded to men’s and women’s divisions in Spain and Mexico, and men’s leagues in Brazil, France, Italy, Germany, the Middle East, and North Africa, with the United States set to join soon.
