Jennifer Lopez is opening up about a major milestone in her family life as her twins prepare to leave the nest.
The 56-year-old superstar chatted with Entertainment Tonight on the opening night of her Up All Night Live in Las Vegas residency, where she shared her emotions about 17-year-old Max and Emme getting ready for college. Lopez, who shares the twins with ex-husband Marc Anthony, said she feels “really good” as her kids get ready to start this next chapter.
"I feel really good about it," she said. "I'm like, [I] can't believe that we've gotten here, you know, just the three of us. It's, you know, been a journey for all three of us through this life [because] I was a single mom since they were 3 years old."
Reflecting on how close their small family unit has been, Lopez continued, "People have come in and out of my life, but it really has just been the three of us. And to see how they're kind of like thriving right now and the adults, like young adults that they're growing into, and they're so ready for their life. They're so ready to get out there and I remember what that felt like [at] 18."
The proud mom said she can’t wait to watch her kids discover what lies ahead, explaining that she’s "so excited" for them to experience life on their own.
"I'm so excited for that because I know that they have this like, home for them to come home to that is solid and will be solid for them for the rest of their life, and they know that, even more importantly," she said. "So they have that love and they can go out and do whatever they want."
Lopez welcomed Max and Emme in February 2008. Despite being one of the most famous entertainers in the world, she recently told E! News that her children aren’t particularly impressed by her star power.
"It's funny, my kids are not very involved with Mom's work. They're like, 'work, come home, be home for dinner.' That's more what they're concerned about. Mom, are you going to be here in the weekend? Can we do this? Can we do that? You know, it's a different life. It's separate," she shared.
She also revealed that the twins have been attending her recent Las Vegas shows — and they’re enjoying it. Lopez lovingly described them as “fans,” adding that they’re proud to support her from the crowd.
"They came to the show yesterday and today and they'll be there tomorrow," she said. "They're fans. They're sweet about it, and they're they're proud of their mama."
