Jennifer Lopez dazzled the audience on the second day of her Las Vegas residency, once again proving why she is considered one of the most complete performers in entertainment. In a rare, personal moment, she was joined onstage by her children, Max and Emme, who appeared briefly beside her.
A family moment on the Las Vegas stage
The three shared a hug in front of the crowd on New Year’s Eve during what marked the second show by the Diva from the Bronx at the iconic Caesars Palace. Marc Anthony’s children joined their mother for the countdown, and taking advantage of the presence of her “coconuts,” as she calls them, the actress shared a personal anecdote in a short and emotional speech with the audience.
She remarked, "Those little babies who were on this stage when they were seven years old are now seventeen." After that show, they came up to me and Max asked, ‘Mom, why don’t you wear pants on stage?’ And I said, Jesus Christ, what a bizarre life. And you wanna know what I answered? Because I’m a showgirl, and I love to dance.”
Looking back on life after divorce
Later, Lopez reflected on her marriage to Marc Anthony, her third husband and the father of her twins, whom she was married to from 2004 to 2014. She spoke candidly about perseverance and the challenge of staying professionally active after their divorce as she navigated single motherhood.
The 56-year-old later addressed the audience, reflecting on a vulnerable turning point in her life. “If you take anything away from this show tonight, let it be this: after my third divorce, that’s when I really started getting good at it,” she said, referring to her split from Marc Anthony, the father of Emme and Max.
She also emphasized the respect and maturity she and Anthony built after the separation, prioritizing their children’s wellbeing. Lopez has often noted that while their marriage ended, Anthony remains a lasting part of her life because of the family they share.
Laughing off the critics and addressing the noise at 56
Lopez also addressed critics who take aim at her stage wardrobe at 56. "Thank God I've been doing this a long time. I can just ignore a lot of it. It really doesn't mean nothing. I tell my kids that all the time. But it could be the saddest, meanest place on earth," Lopez said of social media. "But it was funny. I do laugh at some of the things sometimes, because they do say funny things too," she added, referencing a TikTok video from opening night of her residency.
Still, she admitted some comments make her laugh, including complaints that she always poses with her mouth open. She then reenacted the familiar refrain about her outfits: "Why is she always dressed that way?" "Why doesn't she dress her age?" Lopez said. Her punchline drew a roar. “ "If you had this booty, you'd be naked too," she joked, showing off a green sequined mini dress finished with fringe and feathers.
