A sudden and severe blow has shaken the Messi family just days before one of the most anticipated events of the year, the wedding of María Sol Messi, the younger sister of Lionel Messi.
What should have been days of family joy, awaiting the wedding date, have turned into concern and intensive care following a serious car accident in Miami, forcing the postponement of the wedding, originally scheduled for January 3 in Rosario, Argentina.
María Sol Messi, 32, was in Miami when, according to initial reports, she suffered a health issue while driving, causing her to lose control of her SUV and crash into a wall.
While the exact circumstances of the accident are still being clarified, some sources mention a motorcycle fall, and the impact resulted in significant injuries to the sister of the Argentine football star.
The news was revealed Monday night by Argentine journalist Ángel de Brito on the program LAM. He reported that María Sol’s mother, Celia Cuccittini, confirmed the incident, and fortunately, her daughter is out of immediate danger.
As a result of the crash, María Sol suffered fractures in two vertebrae, as well as injuries to her heel and wrist, along with burns that required urgent medical attention. The spinal fractures, in particular, represent a serious challenge, as recovery will be slow and will include rehabilitation sessions to regain as much mobility as possible.
After the accident, María Sol was transferred from Miami to her hometown of Rosario, Argentina, where she has already begun treatment and rehabilitation. The Messi family, who have always maintained a very close bond, are supporting her emotionally and physically during this difficult time.
The accident has not only had medical consequences but emotional ones as well. María Sol’s wedding to Julián “Tuli” Arellano, coach of the Inter Miami U-19 team and her partner for more than a decade, originally scheduled for January 3 in Rosario, has been postponed indefinitely.
The couple shared not only a life project together but also a love story that began in their hometown neighborhood of Rosario, mirroring the romance of her brother Lionel and Antonela Roccuzzo.
Since their teenage years, María Sol and Julián have been inseparable, building a relationship that extended beyond local boundaries and led them to significant professional opportunities, including living in the United States for soccer-related work.
Unlike her famous brother, María Sol Messi has always sought a more discreet profile, focusing on her own projects. As a businesswoman and fashion designer, she has built her career away from the public eye, including time spent living in Spain before returning to Argentina to advance her own businesses.
The accident has sparked a wave of support not only from the family’s close circle but also from fans and figures in sports and fashion, all expressing solidarity and best wishes for María Sol’s speedy recovery.
