It's Christmas time, and Jaden Smith is giving back. The 27-year-old launched his “I Love You” food truck initiative for the first time in Skid Row in 2019, which has since expanded into a restaurant. For the holidays, they had a Christmas activation at Homeless Health Care LA's ReFresh Spot, known as an “oasis in Skid Row."
On Thursday, Jaden shared a photo wearing one of the "I <3 YOU RESTAURANT" shirts in the caption, "We Just Finished Our Christmas Activation." "Can’t Wait To Feed More People In 2026. Happy Holidays From Our Community To Yours," he added.
The ReFresh Spot is a 24/7 public space that welcomes everyone, no questions asked, with no discrimination. According to their website, the spot offers showers, restrooms, laundry, drinking water, a mini library, phone charging, and WiFi.
It also distributes essential supplies like hygiene and wound care kits, socks, underwear, overdose prevention kits, pet items, food, and more. Over a dozen community partners work with the ReFresh Spot to provide extra support, including health, housing, and legal services.
Talking about his 501(c)(3), Smith told Variety in the past, “It’s for homeless people to get free food. “[I]f you’re not homeless, not only do you have to pay, but you have to pay for more than the food’s worth so that you can pay for the person behind you."
Every activation, the organization serves up to 500 hot vegan meals, bottles of JUST Water, and an assortment of donated clothing.
Vegan meals were a deliberate choice for Jaden, who, according to the website, believes everyone deserves access to healthy food, no matter their financial situation. The menu was crafted alongside world-class chef and co-founder Tabitha Leeper.
The name of the nonprofit has its own story. Inspired by Dr. Emoto’s research showing that labeling organic matter with the words “I Love You” positively changes its molecules, and backed by psychologists proving that hearing those words can improve mood, Jaden wanted the nonprofit to spread not just food, but peace, happiness, and a sense of well-being to the Skid Row community.
The mission doesn’t stop there. I Love You aims to create a global community around homelessness and food insecurity, engaging people through social media, volunteering, and brand partnerships. The long-term goal is to build the I Love You Headquarters, serving three free meals a day, every day, first in Skid Row and eventually across the country and the world.
