Pete Davidson and Elsie Hewitt are getting ready to welcome their baby. The couple shared the news of Hewitt's pregnancy some months ago, with Davidson sharing his excitement in the following months. In a new interview, they're sharing their approach to naming their baby, which is surprisingly old school.
In an interview with PEOPLE, Davidson revealed that he was preparing to welcome his baby by simply being "excited to meet this little thing." He also shared his consideration for "weird Hollywood" baby names, and why they ultimately decided against that impulse.
“For a while, we were like, should we do that weird Hollywood thing where it's like a color or something? And then I think we're more into the Staten Island normal,” Davidson said, referencing his memorable home. “Mikey, Johnny, Tommy, Mark or Amy, Bridget, Maggie sort of route, because that's missing, I miss that. Remember when you were growing up, you knew like seven Franks?”
He said that while they may stick to a traditional first name, they might get creative with the middle name. “We were thinking the middle name could be a little fun,” he said.
Davidson's sweet words regarding Hewitt
Davidson has been promoting some of his work in the past year, including attending the New York summer premiere of his movie "The Home." There, he spoke with HOLA!, sharing some of his first statements following the announcement of his baby. "It's the best thing I'll do. And I couldn't be happier to do it with the person that I'm doing it with," he said.
"She's wonderful, and I'm excited to see her as a mom, as excited as I am to become a dad." Davidson also shared that his closest friends and family were thrilled by the reactions of the people in his life, and how excited they are for him to step into this new role. "They know that that's my dream."
He revealed that the realization that he was becoming a father greatly informed his approach to life and work. "Baby comes first," he said. "What's great about it is that you realize that this is just a job. It'll have to be a very good job for me to leave that."
Over the past year, Hewitt has been sharing updates of her life, including various pregnancy photos and special moments alongside Davidson. Yesterday, she shared some photos and videos of herself and Davidson visiting a place with numerous Christmas decorations. "If I'm sad just take me here," she captioned it.
