The 2026 Met Gala has announced its co-chairs. The prestigious event will celebrate its spring Costume Institute exhibition, titled "Costume Art," and has recruited some of the leading names in sports and entertainment. Venus Williams, Beyoncé, and Nicole Kidman will be joining Anna Wintour as co-chairs of the 2026 Met Gala.
The three women are Met Gala veterans, with Williams and Kidman attending last year's gala. In the case of Beyoncé, the news is likely to cause a bit more of a stir, considering how selective she is of the public appearances she makes. Her last Met Gala appearance took place 10 years ago, when she walked down the Met Gala's steps in 2016, for the "Manus x Machina" gala.
The 2026 Met Gala will include other prominent figures as hosts, with Zoe Kravitz and the Belgian designer Anthony Vaccarello to co-chair the Host Committee. The two will preside over a panel that includes celebrities like Doja Cat, Lena Dunham, Sabrina Carpenter, LISA, Sam Smith, Paloma Elsesser, and more.
Ever since the Met announced the theme for next year's gala, fashion experts and fans have been trying to predict how "Costume Art" will translate to the red carpet. Per the museum's press release, the exhibit will tell a story of Western costume art from prehistory through today, with the human silhouette at the forefront.
The role of the Bezos family
In November, it was announced that Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez Bezos would be one of the sponsors of next year's Met Gala, providing funding for the event and cementing their place and interest in the fashion industry. Other sponsors include the fashion house Saint Laurent and Condé Nast, the media company that owns Vogue.
Fashion houses typically fund the Met Gala, but in recent years, corporations have become increasingly prominent, playing a larger role. In 2022, Instagram served as the gala's sponsor. In 2024, it was TikTok.
Wintour, long considered the Met Gala's mastermind, shared her thoughts on Lauren Sanchez Bezos' involvement. “I think Lauren is going to be a wonderful asset to the museum and to the event. I'm very grateful for her incredible generosity, and she's a great lover of costume and obviously of fashion," she said to CNN. She's been a longtime friend of Jeff Bezos, who's attended various Met Galas in the past, serving as one of the show's co-chairs in 2012.
The couple made their Met Gala debut in 2024.
