After the crowning of Fátima Bosch as the new Miss Universe 2025, millions of reactions poured in from around the world, including one from Nawat Itsaragrisil, director of the Thai pageant, with whom Fátima had been involved in a controversy earlier this month.
The 26-year-old Mexican contestant defeated Thailand’s Praveenar Singh, who finished as first runner-up. Although the Thai audience at Impact Arena hoped the crown would stay at home, the judges ultimately decided that the undeniable winner was the Mexican contestant. This triggered a wave of reactions online as well as boos inside the venue.
On his social media accounts, Nawat shared a couple of messages that have been taken as indirect comments about the competition’s outcome. The first post shared by Nawat read: “Ten billion words that cannot be spoken.” In another message written in Thai, he stated: “I have done the best I possibly could.” Although he didn’t mention Fátima Bosch directly nor refer to the Thai contestant’s loss, it seems Nawat was far from satisfied with the result.
In statements attributed to the Thai director and reproduced by several outlets, including Infobae, Nawat Itsaragrisil tried to avoid stirring further controversy, assuring that he respects the judges’ decision.
“Oh, I can’t say anything about the result, but I always respect it. If the judges and the organization have already decided, we have to accept it. But, by the way, it depends on what beauty pageant fans think. I’m waiting to see the comments from their homes,” he said.
The tense moment between Fátima Bosch and Nawat
From the beginning of the pageant activities in early November, Fátima stood out for her beauty and confidence on the runway. Shortly after, she delivered a masterclass in respect, composure, and self-love when she confronted Nawat in a controversy that unfolded during the sashing ceremony.
Fátima Bosch said that the Thai director had disrespected her; in a video that went viral, he is even seen asking security staff to remove the Mexican model from the area.
After this tense moment, Fátima spoke to local media and said: “He called me stupid because he has problems with the organization. And I don’t think it’s fair, because I’m here doing everything right, I’m not bothering anyone. I’m just trying to be kind,” she explained.
“He simply attacked me and told me to shut up and many other things. I think the world needs to see this because we are empowered women, and no one can silence our voice. No one is going to do that to me. I have no problem with any of you, you have my respect and I love your country, but the way he treats me for no reason, just because he has problems, that’s not right.”
The video in which Nawat insults her spread worldwide, and millions of people supported the young woman from Tabasco, who became one of the most beloved contestants, especially for her graciousness and warmth.
