Schlossberg kicked off his campaign on social media, sharing various posts, including a banner that reads "Jack for New York" and a video of himself addressing the camera. In it, Schlossberg is wearing a suit and has his distinctive hair combed back."250 years after America was founded, and our country is at a turning point," he said, walking forward, inside what appears to be a warehouse. As he spoke, Schlossberg stepped out into New York with the city skyline as his background.

Schlossberg shared that he was running for New York's 12th congressional district, sharing his concern over rising costs in the country and his opposition to Donald Trump's administration.

"My name is Jack Schlossberg, and I’m running for Congress to represent my home, New York’s 12th congressional district, where I was born and raised, where I took the bus to school every single day from one side of the district to the other," he said. "This district should have a representative who can harness the creativity, energy, and drive of this district and translate that into political power in Washington."

Schlossberg did not refer to his notable lineage, only sharing his pride in New York. He'll be running to replace Representative Jerry Nadler, who's retiring. You can check the full video below.

Why Schlossberg believes he can win

Following his announcement, Schlossberg was featured on CNN, sharing that he is a Democrat who believes he can communicate with a younger generation disillusioned with politics. “In this toxic polluted media environment we are in — I breathe that air,” he argued.

In the past, Schlossberg has been involved in politics, most prominently in 2024, when he shared his support for Kamala Harris.

Schlossberg is 32 years old and is the youngest son of the diplomat Caroline Kennedy, daughter of JFK and Jaqueline Kennedy Onassis, and Edwin Schlossberg, a designer, artist, and author. The Kennedys are one of the most prominent political families in the country, with three generations serving in elected office, including JFK as president, Robert Kennedy as attorney general, and Ted Kennedy as a Massachusetts senator. Robert F. Kennedy is currently serving as Trump's Health and Human Services secretary.

Schlossberg has shared pride about the politicians in his family, all but Robert F. Kennedy, whom he's disavowed. "RFK LOSER IS A THREAT TO PUBLIC HEALTH and AMERICAN SCIENTIFIC LEADERSHIP," he wrote on X.
