Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow’s daughter Apple has released a new music video for her single 'Satellites,' following a debut performance that drew criticism, with online users describing it as an “off-key," "karaoke performance."

The 21-year-old model and aspiring singer is stepping into the music world, seemingly following in the footsteps of her father, the 48-year-old Coldplay frontman.

The visuals for 'Satellites,' a collaboration with indie rock duo Jade Street, made up of Eli Meyuhas and Zachary Zwelling, dropped on Tuesday. The moody black-and-white video was filmed during Apple’s debut gig in Nashville last week, the same performance that sparked online backlash over her vocal abilities.

While her live vocals were not audible in the clip, the studio version plays over the visuals, including the chorus, “And I wanna take you away / I wanna push 'til it breaks.” Toward the end of the video, Apple shows a bit of personality, dancing briefly and thanking the audience at the conclusion of the song.

The rock duo explained the collaboration in a press release. “We wrote Satellites around a year ago but it never quite settled into what it wanted to be. It lingered in the background for months until we played it for Apple. Her voice instantly reframed the entire song and gave it a whole new identity. It was clear that she was the missing piece the song needed and from there, the rest of the recording process felt completely instinctive.”

Despite the video’s release, social media reaction to Apple’s live performance remained critical. Viewers likened her stage vocals to karaoke and questioned whether she had inherited her father’s musical talent.

TikTok comments included, “Nepotism has killed art,” “Aren’t we bored with nepotism yet?” and “Sorry but she needs to leave the singing to her dad.” Others compared her performance to a scene in 'Bridget Jones’s Diary.'

However, Instagram responses to the music video were more positive, with followers commenting, “Gorgeous voice!!,” “You sound heavenly,” and “It’s female Chris Martian now I don’t need to switch teams thank god.”

Apple has previously addressed claims of being an “entitled” nepo baby. Reflecting on her upbringing, she told Interview magazine, “I know this is not a normal way to grow up by any means. But my parents did a really good job of instilling in me that I shouldn't be entitled to anything. I have to work.”

Away from music, Apple has built a modeling career, walking for Chanel’s haute couture show at Paris Fashion Week in 2023 and appearing alongside her mother in a campaign for GapStudio earlier this year.

Her recent debut with the British brand Self-Portrait marked another milestone, where she described the experience as collaborative and enjoyable.

“Debuting with Self-Portrait was a no-brainer – their British spirit reminds me of growing up in London, so it's felt like home from the start. Plus, the collections are gorge and approachable! Han and the team welcomed me in as part of the creative process and I am having a lot of fun learning along the way.”

She continues to pursue her studies at Vanderbilt University, majoring in law, history, and society. She is also exploring acting through the Vanderbilt Original Cast, a cabaret theater group, describing her experience as fun, “I'm definitely not the best in the org, but I love it.”
