Victoria Beckham is not ruling out a Spice Girls reunion! During a recent interview with Andy Cohen, the fashion designer and former pop star opened up about the idea of reuniting with her former bandmates, nearly three decades after the girl group first skyrocketed to global fame.
“It’s tempting,” she admitted when the possibility of performing again was raised. “It would be tempting, but could I take on a world tour? I can’t. I have a job.”
Her comment came as the idea of a Spice Girls residency was raised, possibly at the Sphere in Las Vegas. Victoria didn’t hide her enthusiasm for the idea, adding, “Oh my God, the Sphere is amazing… how good would the Spice Girls be at the Sphere?”
However, she wasn’t shy about poking fun at herself. “I mean, I don’t know if I could even still sing. I mean, I was never that great.” Her appearance on the show came after the release of her self-titled Netflix docuseries, which explores her evolution from pop icon to respected fashion designer.
Reflecting on her early years with the Spice Girls, she revealed, “Before I was in the Spice Girls, I was so self-conscious and they made me feel that I was good enough, but being on stage, I realized as fun as it is, you know, it’s not ultimately what I want to do anymore.”
She shared the same thoughts in a separate interview with Vanity Fair, where she said she’s spent years trying to redefine herself beyond the Posh Spice persona. “I’ve been in fashion now for coming up two decades, and I was in the Spice Girls for a four-year period, and I’ve been so defined by that four-year period,” she said. “I’m so proud to say I was a Spice Girl… I will always be Posh Spice.”
Even though she declined to take part in the group’s most recent official reunion tour in 2019, she did join Geri Halliwell, Emma Bunton, Melanie Brown, and Melanie Chisholm for a spontaneous performance at her 50th birthday party in April 2024.
At the exclusive London celebration at Oswald’s, the original five sang a brief set of “Stop” and “Mama,” with Beckham’s son Cruz accompanying them on guitar. It was the first time all five members performed together since the 2012 London Olympics closing ceremony.
In the Netflix series, Beckham also touched on how her 2008 reunion with the group was encouraged by her husband, David Beckham, who urged her to do it for their children. “David was like, ‘It’s really good for the kids to see you do this,’” she recalled, adding with a laugh, “He mum-guilted me!”
David explained that their children, Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz, and Harper, had never seen their mother on stage. “Our kids weren’t around to see their mum be a Spice Girl,” he said.
Though her heart now lies in fashion, with both her clothing label and beauty brand thriving, Victoria hasn’t entirely closed the door on music. As she said more than once, “I love the idea of it.”
Reflecting on her journey in the docuseries, she shared, “I’m very ambitious. I like to dream really, really big, but I have to say, having a bird’s eye view for the first time looking back at my journey, I feel really proud.”
