Leonardo DiCaprio is paying tribute to Diane Keaton following her passing.
News of the legendary actress' death broke on Saturday, October 11, breaking the hearts of fans all over the world.
© Gilbert FloresKeaton rose to fame in the 1970s due to her role in The Godfather films and her collaborations with director Woody Allen, winning an Oscar for Best Actress for 1977’s Annie Hall. Her long career included movies like The First Wives Club, Father of the Bride, Crimes of the Heart, and countless others. She was 79.
Following her passing, many of the star's friends and former costars paid tribute to her with poignant posts, pouring their hearts out for such a beloved figure. One of the people to honor Keaton was Leonardo DiCaprio, who spoke about getting to work with the actress at just 18 years old.
Posting a photo of himself and Keaton seemingly taken around the time of filming more than decades ago, DiCaprio wrote a sweet message on his Instagram Stories.
"Diane Keaton was one of a kind. Brilliant, funny, and unapologetically herself," he began. "A legend, and icon, and a truly kind human being. I had the honor of working with her at 18. She will be deeply missed."
Keaton played Bessie, the aunt of DiCaprio's troubled teen character, Hank, in the Jerry Zaks-directed drama Marvin's Room. The star-studded cast also included Meryl Streep and Robert De Niro.
Keaton died in her birthplace of California, PEOPLE confirmed on Saturday. “There are no further details available at this time, and her family has asked for privacy in this moment of great sadness,” a spokesperson for the actress said.
In addition to DiCaprio, many stars made their way to social media to pay their respect to the late legend, including her First Wives Club costars Goldie Hawn and Bette Midler.
Midler called Keaton "brilliant, beautiful [and] extraordinary," going on to say: "I cannot tell you how unbearably sad this makes me. She was hilarious, a complete original, and completely without guile, or any of the competitiveness one would have expected from such a star. What you saw was who she was … oh, la, lala!"
