Barron Trump might have a high-paying job lined up, all before graduating from college. The youngest son of President Donald Trump might be under consideration for a top position at TikTok, the giant social media company owned by the Chinese firm ByteDance.
The rumors gained momentum after Jack Advent, Donald Trump's former social media producer, mentioned Barron as a possible candidate to be introduced to TikTok's board. “I’m hopeful President Trump will consider appointing his son Barron and maybe other young Americans to TikTok’s board to help ensure it remains an app young people want to keep using,” said Advent to The Daily Mail.
The Trump administration has a significant relationship with TikTok, having prevented the app from being banned in the US. In a video shared on his TikTok account, Trump said he "saved" the app and that viewers owed him.
"To all of those young people of TikTok, I saved TikTok, so you owe me big," he said in a clip recorded from the Oval Office, showing him sitting on his desk. "And now you're looking at me at the Oval Office, and someday one of you is gonna be sitting right at this desk, and you're gonna be doing a great job also."
The Trump administration requires that the majority of TikTok investors be American and for the company to be operated in the U.S. While the sale has yet to be finalized, various billionaires have been linked with the company, including Larry Ellison and Marc Andreessen.
Barron Trump's future at NYU
At the start of the fall semester, which kicked off last month in the Northeast, news outlets began reporting that Barron Trump had not been spotted in New York City, where he was thought to be completing his sophomore year.
Outlets claim that while Barron hasn't moved on from NYU, he's moved on from New York and is now taking classes at the university's campus in Washington. This location is near the White House, suggesting Barron is living with his parents as he continues to work on his college education.
“From what I was told, he’s doing a semester at another NYU campus," said a campus security officer to PEOPLE.
Barron reportedly spent the summer planning for his future and meeting with various people involved in tech companies. "Barron has been actively working on his own financial interests and has spent time with others who he is involved with in that area," said an insider.
Maybe a job at TikTok fits into his plans.
