Taylor Swift's The Life of a Showgirl is officially here, and it's a pretty incredible body of work that has sent social media into a frenzy as fans try to dissect every lyric to figure out who she's singing about. One track has people convinced she dissed her fiancé Travis Kelce's ex Kayla Nicole, and there's a pretty big piece of evidence to corroborate it.
One lyric on her track “Opalite” caught everyone’s attention: “You couldn’t understand it, why you felt alone / You were in it for real, she was in her phone / And you were just a pose.”
The lyrics have implications that Nicole was using Kelce for clout and attention when they were together. Eagle-eyed fans who could have a career in the FBI dug up a resurfaced clip.
Kelce and Nicole dated on and off between 2017 and 2022, and in a video published by Page Six, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end complained about her phone habits during a date night. “Oh, my God. Get off your phone… You’re not even drinking your wine anymore. Can we go?” Kelce sighed, while Nicole laughed it off. In another clip, she insisted she wouldn’t need social media validation “if someone sometimes would pay [her] attention.”
Adding more fuel, Tracis said it was his favorite song on the album. “‘Opalite’ might be my favortie, at least right now,” he said on his New Heights podcast. “Every time it comes on, I always catch myself.”
Travis Kelce and Kayla Nicole
Their romance began after some flirty Instagram exchanges and a DM from Nicole on New Year’s Eve 2017. Over the next five years, they had a rollercoaster relationship full of red carpet appearances, on-again-off-again drama, and public scrutiny.
Since then, Nicole has frequently been asked about her past, and she opened up about how being his ex has brought her a furry of trolls. “You could go to my most recent post and it’ll be people debating why I’m worthless and how I’ll never be a talented person,” she said on the Unapologetically Angel podcast. "I would be lying if I said that that level of hate and just, like, online chaos didn't impact me, it does. Even to this day.”
Who else did she diss?
She's not the only one who has made the "possible people Swift dissed" list. Fans are also speculating that the song "CANCELLED" is about Blake Lively. The former best friends have seemingly stopped hanging out since the Justin Baldoni lawsuit, where it came out that the actress referred to her as one of her dragons. Swift is also likely going to be deposed.
People also believe "Actually Romantic" is about Charli XCX, and a direct response to XCX’s song “Sympathy is a Knife.” Swift's ex, Matty Healy is the bandmate of Charli’s husband, George Daniel. "Don’t wanna see her backstage at my boyfriend’s show / Fingers crossed behind my back, I hope they break up quick," XCX sings.
As for one of her biggest opps - Scooter Braun, fans speculate "Father Figure" is about him.
And of course, people also think her exes Joe Alwyn and Healy are getting roasted in the lyrics in songs like "Life of a Showgirl."
