Just days after riding waves in Fiji, Chris Hemsworth was spotted back home in Byron Bay, proudly supporting his 11-year-old son, Sasha, during a local surf competition.

The actor wasn’t alone, his parents, Craig and Leonie Hemsworth, were also on the beach, cheering for their grandson in a moment that felt more like a heartfelt family gathering than a celebrity sighting.

Sasha, one of the twin sons of Chris and Elsa Pataky, clearly inherited the surf gene. The young athlete not only competed, but he also won the tournament. Elsa shared the victory on Instagram, congratulating her son and highlighting the fun moment.

“They’re both in local boardriders and winning comps these days and having fun,” he said in a recent interview with Surfer. “I’m just stoked they’re all into surfing... You want them to find their way to it naturally.”

This past week, Hemsworth had just returned from Fiji, where he surfed the famous left-handers in front of Tavarua Island Resort, specifically, Restaurants, a notoriously perfect and powerful wave.

“I got about four or five closeouts, and then that one I scraped through,” Chris recalled about a recent heavy wave session back home with Aussie surf legends Bede Durbidge and Luke Munro. “There was just so much water moving through there, and it’s a heavy wave... but when you’ve got those two guys calling you in, and guiding you through it, you’re in good hands.”

When asked whether he’d ever considered trading the red carpet for the pro surfing tour, Hemsworth was humble but honest, “If I could wave the magic wand, I’d probably choose the surf career,” he admitted.

However, he’s not sure he could’ve made the cut. “I have neither the talent, or the commitment that some of these men and women have today,” he said. “Then, reality hits you quickly, and you realize that you’re not one of the gifted few.”

His love for surfing has remained constant, even while filming, raising a family, or working on high-concept shows like 'Limitless' with National Geographic. One episode planned to feature Chris tackling a monster wave at Jaws, but studio execs shut it down.

“We couldn’t get the insurance from Disney... They were like, ‘nah…we’ll let you do all this other crazy shit.’ But big wave surfing, they felt there were too many variables,” he explained to the publication. “We can’t have him drown,” one exec reportedly said, referencing Hemsworth’s contractual obligations to Marvel Studios.
