Jennifer Lopez has fans doing double takes, and some even mistaking her for another pop icon, thanks to a striking new transformation for her latest film role.
In a set of behind-the-scenes photos shared to Instagram, Lopez, 56, unveiled her dramatic platinum blonde look for the upcoming musical thriller 'Kiss of the Spider Woman.'
Playing dual roles as Aurora and Ingrid Luna, Lopez embraces a vintage aesthetic that left fans convinced they were looking at Gwen Stefani.
"Omg you look like @gwenstefani. Love you sis," singer Natasha Bedingfield commented, with many fans reacting the same way. “What in the Gwen Stefani is this?”, while another added, “Thought this was Gwen Stefani at first glance!”
JLo's complete transformation:
Wearing a platinum blonde updo styled in 1940s curls and accented with a soft pink knotted headband, Lopez completed the look with bold red lipstick and smoky eyeshadow. The first selfie in her Instagram carousel shows her in a plush robe, her blonde curls swept up in a ponytail, exuding a classic Hollywood vibe.
The transformation was the work of celebrity makeup artist Scott Barnes, who noted in the comments, “This was no ordinary glam. I created a full transformation for JLo as Ingrid Luna in Kiss of the Spider Woman, and she looks breathtaking.”
In a second photo, Lopez lounges in a bubble bath on set, surrounded by costume sketches and a simple tray of bread and butter, a quiet moment that contrasts with the glamorous aesthetic of the role.
“Stepping into the role of Aurora felt like dancing through the golden age of cinema … with all the glitz, glamour, and a whole lot of dancing,” Lopez wrote in the caption. “Stepping back into time has never been so much fun.”
More about her role:
'Kiss of the Spider Woman' is a film adaptation of the 1993 Broadway musical, which itself was based on Manuel Puig’s 1976 novel. Directed by Bill Condon and produced by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s Artists Equity, the film has already generated Oscar buzz after its premiere at Sundance earlier this year.
Lopez stars as Aurora, an imaginary screen siren created in the mind of Luis Molina (played by Tonatiuh), a gay hairdresser imprisoned in Argentina. Sharing a cell with Marxist revolutionary Valentin Arregui (Diego Luna), Molina dreams up glamorous film scenes to escape the harsh reality of incarceration. In one fantasy, Aurora becomes a lethal Spider Woman who kills with a kiss.
“Their experience, being locked in a cell together and helping each other survive, allows them to see the humanity in one another,” Lopez explained in an interview with Out. “To me, that is the real definition of love.”
A very personal moment:
Filming began in March 2024, coinciding with a challenging chapter in Lopez’s personal life. Just three months after wrapping her scenes, Lopez filed for divorce from Ben Affleck, 53, on their second wedding anniversary in August 2024.
Lopez says the film helped her find purpose and joy. “It was one of the most beautiful moviemaking experiences I’ve ever had, and also at a difficult time in my life,” she shared with Out. “But it… just filled a part of me that was waiting to kind of come alive for so long.”
Even as Lopez prepares for the film’s October 10 release, she remains focused on family. Earlier this month, she marked an emotional milestone: sending 17-year-old twins Emme and Max, whom she shares with ex-husband Marc Anthony, off to their senior year of high school.
“I just dropped off this little coconut to their first day of senior year,” she captioned a throwback photo with Emme. “They'll always be my beautiful baby!”
