Regarding red carpets, Sofía Vergara is usually the one bringing the sparkle. But this year, television’s biggest night took an unexpected turn for the "Modern Family" alum. Instead of dazzling at the 2025 Emmy Awards on Sunday, Sept. 14, the 53-year-old found herself in a hospital gown after what she called the “craziest eye allergy” derailed her night at the last minute.
Vergara revealed her unexpected detour on Instagram with her signature humor, posting a carousel that showed her left eye visibly swollen. “Didn't make it to the Emmys but made it to the ER 🤣😩,” she wrote. “Sorry I had to cancel! Craziest eye [allergy] right before getting in the car! 🤣🤣.” Her post included not just a close-up selfie of the allergic reaction, but also behind-the-scenes clips from the emergency room.
In one, she was seen rinsing her eye out at a hospital sink. In another, she lay tucked into a hospital bed, proving that even in an ER, Sofía finds a way to keep things glamorous and lighthearted.
From Presenter to Patient
The timing couldn’t have been worse. Vergara was scheduled to present at this year’s Emmy ceremony, as confirmed in a Sept. 9 press release. She was set to share the stage with an all-star lineup of presenters, including Elizabeth Banks, Angela Bassett, Colman Domingo, Sarah Paulson, and Catherine Zeta-Jones.
